Our goal at the Edgartown Public Library is to provide a welcome space for all year-round Islanders, seasonal, and daily visitors to browse our collection, use a computer or free wifi, or simply relax in a comfy chair. We house over 34,000 books, 2,600 music CDs, 7,200 DVDs and BluRays, and offer free downloads of thousands of audio and Ebook titles. We belong to the CLAMS consortium, which allows

Opera Club: Massenet’s "Thaïs"
Sunday, June 14th, 1:00-4:00 PM

June's Opera Club features Thaïs, a rarely heard work from composer Jules Massenet. The Metropolitan Opera's 2008 production stars soprano Renée Fleming as the glamorous courtesan who undergoes a religious conversion. It's a role that suits the singer perfectly, sitting mostly midrange, where her voice is at its most rich and sensual. Baritone Thomas Hampson sings the role of the monk Athanaël, who wants to save Thaïs from her wicked ways, while lusting after her. Maestro Jesus Lopez-Cobos meets Massenet's melodic gem with great sensitivity.

Sung in French and shown with English subtitles, the opera runs three hours, including intermission. All adults are welcome.

This year would have been former beloved trustee Herb Foster's 98th birthday, so come join the Friends of the Library to socialize, reminisce, celebrate, eat hot dogs, and DONATE! Please bring a dessert to share. There will be refreshments and hot dogs with coleslaw prepared by Chef Look 🌭

✨ Celebrate the start of summer with an evening of fashion at The Carnegie! ✨

The evening will feature a runway show from Edgartown retailers, a complimentary welcome drink, refreshments, and a curated silent auction, all benefiting the Edgartown Library Children’s Room. Set in the historic former library, the event marks ten years in the Library’s new home.

Do you have questions about using your laptop, smartphone, iPad, or other devices? The Edgartown Library is partnering with the Edgartown Council On Aging to provide drop-in tech help every month at the Anchors during their Friday Cafe.
