Economic Development Highlight of the Week ✨

A special thank you goes out to Anne Guayante from Economic Development for her hard work and role in securing a RAISE grant.

The Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program is a federal program to help communities modernize roads, bridges, transit, rail ports, and intermodal transportation.

Earlier this year, the City of El Paso submitted a RAISE Grant application to secure funding for the design and construction of pedestrian and related site improvements at the City-owned Ysleta Port of Entry.

Due to the overwhelming response from businesses and non-profits in the travel and tourism industry, the Office of the Governor has extended the Category 1 application window for the Texas Travel Industry Recovery Grant Program (TTIR) to August 7 and have pushed back the dates of the upcoming application dates for Categories 2, 3 and 4.

Starting July 6, the Office of the Governor will begin accepting applications for the Texas Travel Industry Recovery Grant Program (TTIR), which will provide grants to Texas businesses in the tourism, travel and hospitality industries that were negatively affected due to COVID-19.

The TTIR program will issue a one-time grant of up to $20,000 to eligible Texas businesses in the following industries: arts, entertainment, and recreation; food services and drinking places; traveler accommodation; RV parks and recreational camps; traveler arrangement and reservation services; convention and tradeshow organizers; breweries; wineries; and distilleries.

Applications will be accepted in phases by industry group. We’re delighted to announce that the City of El Paso, Texas - Municipal Government has joined the City Innovation Ecosystems (CIE) program! The CIE program is an initiative by the National League of Cities that provides cities with resources and support to help entrepreneurs of color achieve greater economic mobility.

As part of this program, the Economic Development Department has committed to helping small businesses secure funding through Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs). We look forward to updating you throughout the year about our progress!

The City of El Paso has been committed to assist and promote small businesses in the community in order to cultivate a sustainable regional economy.

Upon receiving funding from the CARES Act in 2020, the City of El Paso partnered with the Better Business Bureau to create the "Buy El Paso" campaign.

To advance this campaign's efforts and by Mayor Proclamation, we're thrilled to announce that December 4th shall officially be recognized annually as "Buy El Paso Day."

Violent crime rates along US border stays low amid record-breaking nationwide spike

"Year after year, data showing low violent crime rates in majority-Mexican American and Mexican immigrant border communities dispels myths of the U.S.-Mexico border as a region filled with crime and chaos.

The Axios analysis using FBI data and the 2020 census found 11 border communities had a violent crime rate of 340.2 per 100,000 residents, around 15% lower than the national average of 398.5."

We work to promote economic growth initiatives and opportunities to stimulate business attraction and retention within our region. We do so by supporting existing small businesses, recruiting companies to relocate and/or expand in El Paso, create tax-increment reinvestment zones throughout the city, and incentivize impactful investments.
