🏫 Happy First Day of School | Well, parents — you did it! You got them there on time!

We were happy to help top off some coffee and provide a little extra caffeine for those who grabbed the “First Day of School” sign instead of their cup this morning.

High fives to a great school year ahead! 🙌

Last week, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Imperial Highway and California Street for speeding and other vehicle code violations. The vehicle eventually yielded in the 700 block of North Pacific Coast Highway.

When officers attempted to make contact with the occupants, both the driver and the passenger initially refused to exit the vehicle. With assistance from our drone, officers were able to identify the driver using information left visible on the dashboard.

Eventually, both occupants exited the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of an unregistered semi-automatic handgun.

During the investigation, officers learned of an earlier hit and run incident involving the driver.

The male driver was arrested and booked on the following charges:
• Possession of a Loaded Firearm
• Child Endangerment
• Resisting/Delaying/Obstructing a Peace Officer
• Speed greater than 65 MPH
• Hit and Run

The passenger was released in the field to a family member.

Another example of how teamwork, technology, and good police work come together to keep our community safe. This arrest marks the 14th firearm recovered during an arrest since the beginning of the year.

Pull. Pull. Pull. ✈️

Huge shoutout to longtime community member and Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) Board Member Roger Nieves, for sponsoring Team Gundo for the third year in a row! Thank you for your continued generosity and support.

This event is one of our favorites. Every year we keep getting stronger, faster, and more determined. Last year, we finished 8th out of 60 teams with a pull time of 8.03 seconds. This year...we’re coming for the crown!

On Saturday, September 12, 25 of El Segundo’s strongest, together with our honorary SOSC co-pilots, will pull a 62-ton UPS aircraft 12 feet down the runway—all for an amazing cause.

Every dollar raised supports SOSC athletes and helps create more opportunities through sports, inclusion, and community.

Last Thursday, around 4:00 PM, officers responded to the 400 block of South Pacific Coast Highway for a vehicle burglary.

While responding, officers spotted a man matching the suspect description fleeing the area and getting into a waiting vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop near Hughes Way and Pacific Coast Highway.

A positive identification led to the arrest of three male suspects, and the stolen property was recovered. All three suspects were booked on the following charges:
• Auto Burglary
• Conspiracy
• Possession of Burglary Tools

Upon further investigation, it’s believed the suspects are associated with a South American Theft Group (SATG).

Great work by everyone involved. The detailed information provided to dispatch, combined with the quick response by our officers, helped lead to the successful arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen property.

Congratulations to Captain Ryan Danowitz on Graduating from the Senior Management Institute for Policing (SMIP)!

The El Segundo Police Department is proud to announce that Captain Danowitz has successfully graduated from the 100th Session of the SMIP at Boston University. Hosted by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), this prestigious three-week executive leadership program brought together over 100 law enforcement leaders from agencies across the nation.

Throughout the program, participants learned from nationally recognized professors, police executives, and industry experts on a wide range of topics focused on leadership, innovation, and the future of policing. Beyond the classroom, the opportunity to collaborate and build lasting relationships with fellow police leaders from across the country provided invaluable insight and perspective.

Captain Danowitz’s completion of this nationally recognized program reflects the department’s commitment to professional development, continuous learning, and bringing innovative leadership back to the El Segundo community.

Congratulations, Captain Danowitz, on this outstanding accomplishment. We are proud to have you representing the El Segundo Police Department and look forward to the positive impact this experience will have on our organization and the community we serve.
