Climbing For a Cause!
Three of your Steese members, Engineer Bartnik, Firefighter Barta, and Firefighter Delap (not pictured), are on their way to Seattle, WA for Blood Cancer United’s annual Big Climb! They will be climbing 69 floors of the Columbia Tower in full gear and wearing an SCBA, racing against other firefighters from across the country. This Stairclimb is a great competition, but there’s a bigger reason behind it as well- all funds raised by the climbers are going towards blood cancer research and patient advocacy efforts! We wish our guys the best of luck, and we extend a huge thanks to anyone who has graciously donated to this amazing organization! For yesterday’s Tuesday night training, your Steese Firefighters trained on self evacuation from the 2nd story and above during a mayday. They also trained on exiting through basement windows and confined spaces. Buildings compromised by fire can be unpredictable, and it is important for firefighters to be able to quickly exit if a situation goes south.

Recently, our very own Lieutenant Hendrix was offered a position with the Anchorage Fire Department. He has already begun his rigorous 18-week long fire academy process and we wish him the best of luck! We are sad to see him go, but excited to see what the future holds for him! Congratulations Lieutenant Hendrix, go forth and do great things.

Good morning all! With such extreme cold temperatures forecasted for this weekend we have unfortunately decided to not do our normal Santa Run. Instead we will be trying something new! We would love to invite everyone to station 62 (585 Steele Creek Rd, Fairbanks, AK 99712) from 3pm-6pm on Saturday, 12/20 for hot chocolate, candy canes, fire engine tours, and Santa pictures!
