Carnegie Museum Official Page for The Carnegie Historical Museum in Fairfield Iowa. We are the 1st Carnegie Library built west of the Mississippi river. to 8:30 p.m.

The Museum has always been the 3rd floor of the building but now includes exhibits in the basement. Our unique collection features one of the Midwest’s foremost collections of Native American pottery, Civil War artifacts, Roman Antiquities, and an exhibit dedicated to Fairfield and Jefferson County memorabilia. We are open Tuesday through Friday from 11 - 4:00 p.m. And We are also open every 1st Friday for Artwalk from 6 p.m. Stop in and enjoy our rich history.

Here’s a fun picture. This picture is of Howard Keller. On the football team in Fairfield in the 1920s. Randy Keller brought this picture to us to find out where this picture was taken. It was under the Franklin Bell tower that stood next to the 1912 high school. It’s the bell that stood on top of the union/Franklin school house in Howard Park. Then once the high school burn in 1938 after the new high school was built in 1940 the Franklin Bell was moved to the top of the football stadium and stands there today. The house behind Howard Kelleris at 204 N. 3rd St. Still standard day and behind the new Fairfield fire department building. Please bring your family photos in for us. We’d love to put them in the archival history.
