The first day of the 2026–2027 school year!

Here are some of the sights and sounds from an exciting first day as more than 200 community members and partners helped us welcome back more than 10,000 students in grades 1 through 12.

As the sun rises on the first day of the 2026–2027 school year...
earlier this week, seniors at B.M.C. Durfee High School gathered on the Mac Aldrich Football Field for Senior Sunrise, a recent Hilltopper tradition. Incoming Durfee seniors gather together to take in the first rays of the sun as they prepare to begin their final year as Fall River Public Schools students.

Today marks the official beginning of that journey, a year that is sure to be filled with memories, milestones, and unforgettable moments before the Class of 2027 takes its final walk across the graduation stage.

What a great first day for our staff!

This year, we held our first in-person Staff Opening Day Convocation since 2019, bringing more than 2,500 FRPS staff members together in one place to kick off the 2026–2027 school year.

There was energy. There was excitement. And there was so much enthusiasm for the year ahead!

Tomorrow, we open our doors to more than 10,000 students across Fall River Public Schools, and next week, we’ll welcome our littlest learners as our preschool and kindergarten students begin their school year.

The 2026–2027 school year is officially here.

As work continues to transform the second floor of the former Bishop Connolly High School into additional classrooms for our Early Learning Center, families are invited to a Meet and Greet with ELC staff on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Students with last names beginning with A through L are invited to attend from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Students with last names beginning with M through Z should stop by between 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The Meet and Greet will be held outdoors. Families will have an opportunity to meet ELC staff, ask questions, and learn more about the upcoming school year.

Families will have an opportunity to see the classrooms and school during an Open House, which will be scheduled for later in September.

NOTICE: Operational Update

All Fall River Public Schools buildings and departments will be closed to the public until 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Buildings that provide daycare will remain open and continue to provide service.

All FRPS staff will be attending our annual Opening Day Convocation during this time. We will resume normal operations and reopen to the public promptly at 11:00 AM.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we prepare for a successful school year.
