Part of Corunna Road at I 75 will be temporarily shut down while the Flint Township Police Department investigates a pedestrian involved crash. Please plan your travels accordingly while investigators are on scene.

15 arrests. 64 felony charges. 6 misdemeanor charges. 4 illegally converted fully automatic fi****ms removed from our streets.
That's what proactive policing looked like in Flint Township this past week.

An investigation into a shots fired from a vehicle incident led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of three illegally modified fully automatic fi****ms and several extended magazines. Those suspects are now facing numerous weapons charges, including Assault with Intent to Murder. Thanks to determined follow-up investigation and focused patrol efforts, our officers identified and stopped the suspect vehicle less than 24 hours later.

Officers also responded to a home invasion in progress. Arriving as the suspects fled, officers immediately pursued them on foot while neighboring law enforcement agencies responded to assist. Three suspects were taken into custody and now face serious charges, including First-Degree Home Invasion and Felony Firearm offenses.

Meanwhile, our officers partnered with local retailers for a proactive shoplifting task force blitz, working side-by-side with loss prevention teams to catch thieves in the act. The operation resulted in eight arrests, including repeat offenders, a vehicle pursuit, and the recovery of stolen merchandise.

These weren't isolated incidents involving first-time offenders. Several of those arrested already had significant criminal histories, including individuals with pending court cases for shootings and a parole absconder who was back on the streets committing new crimes. Equally alarming, five of those arrested were juveniles, several of whom are now facing adult charges for violent felony offenses, including one juvenile found in possession of another illegally modified handgun during a traffic stop.

These cases are a reminder that proactive policing matters. Whether it's removing illegally modified fi****ms from our streets, apprehending repeat violent offenders, or protecting the business district our community depends on, these efforts make Flint Township a safer place to live, work, and shop.

Yesterday afternoon, Flint Township officers were dispatched to the Genesee Valley Mall following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered aid, and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated, targeted incident involving individuals who are known to one another. There is no indication this was a random act of violence or that members of the public were targeted.

Investigators have also determined that the circumstances leading to this incident were specific to the individuals involved and occurred in the parking lot. No shots were fired inside the mall. While the shooting occurred on mall property, there is no evidence the Genesee Valley Mall, its tenants, employees, shoppers, or visitors were the intended target. Likewise, any nearby businesses shown in news coverage were not the intended target in this incident and should not be associated with the actions of those responsible.

Unfortunately, when individuals choose to resolve personal disputes with gun violence, innocent businesses, employees, customers, and the surrounding community are affected. The location became the scene of this crime, but it was not the cause of it.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Flint Township Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Flint & Genesee County

We appreciate the cooperation of the Genesee Valley Mall, surrounding businesses, witnesses, and first responders as officers quickly secured the scene and began their investigation.

In the last few weeks, we have survived:

🥵 Heat that made stepping outside feel like opening an oven.
🥬 Lettuce that apparently came with a free gastrointestinal adventure.
🌫️ Canadian wildfire smoke turning the entire state into the smoking section.

At this point, Michigan residents have been told not to go outside, not to eat a salad, and not to breathe too deeply.

So call your buddy. Check on your neighbor. Send a text to that one friend who insists they're “fine.” Limit outdoor activity, especially if you have asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.

They are sitting inside with the air conditioner running, eating crackers, and staring suspiciously at a head of romaine.

We're asking for the public's help identifying the individual(s) responsible for breaking into the Flint Swim & Racquet Club and causing significant damage.

Not only did they force their way inside, but they also decided to leave behind what can only be described as some truly underwhelming graffiti. We've attached photos of their "masterpieces" in the hope that someone recognizes the writing, symbols, or style.

This isn't harmless vandalism. This is a community facility used every day by people who come to swim and exercise, and now a local business is now left paying for repairs and cleanup while its members are left looking at the aftermath of someone else's poor decisions.
