World Relief Texas is hosting a Holiday Food Drive! From November 2-20, we will be collecting culturally sensitive and nutritionally valuable food in our Austin and Dallas offices to meet the needs of the refugee community, and we’re inviting you to participate.

This month, we're celebrating Anna, one of our Dallas volunteers. Starting as a classroom aide for one of our Virtual English classes in April, Anna quickly gained confidence and experience over the spring and summer months through the support of the lead teacher and stepped into teaching one class a week this fall.

Through engaging in class discussions on favorite types of music to running jokes about evening classes and a need for sleep, Anna shared that she feels "so privileged to get a glimpse into the incredible resilience, creativity, and humor that the students display every week ... It's truly a joy to get to be even a tiny part of my students' lives! For me, volunteering has also reemphasized the inherent dignity and worth of every human. This dignity and respect is worth fighting for."

For anyone interested in volunteering but feeling a little bit uncertain, Anna shared this encouragement: "It's okay to be nervous and begin anyway. If you bring an attitude of curiosity and humility, you'll be totally fine, even if it feels uncomfortable at first."

Our staff had a wonderful experience at the Refugee Highway Partnership North America conference last weekend! It was a great time of connecting with others doing this work, learning from one another, and being encouraged in our work with refugees and newcomers.

Nemari shared this reflection about her experience:

"Attending the RHPNA Conference reminded me that the work I do is more than a career. It is a calling God has entrusted me with to serve, advocate for, and walk alongside families during some of the most vulnerable seasons of their lives. I left feeling grateful for the people God has placed in my path, renewed in my purpose, and inspired to continue serving with compassion, excellence, and faith."

We're grateful to gather alongside diaspora pastors and leaders in the Austin community for a meaningful time of worship, conversation, and prayer. 💙
