The destruction caused by flash flooding in Nepal is devastating. Fast-moving water and debris washed away communities in a matter of moments.

Nepal Red Cross Society teams are on the ground, providing drinking water, first aid kits and other support to people affected by the flooding. Local teams are also assessing the situation and identifying how best to support communities in the days and months ahead.

Damage to roads and bridges has made it difficult to reach some areas, and in certain communities, aid can only be delivered by helicopter. The situation is challenging, but teams remain committed to getting assistance to those affected by this disaster.

Ever wonder how the Red Cross responds during emergencies like wildfires and floods? And how you can help when disaster strikes?
Join us for a free, in-person shelter training this September. This training is ideal for community organizations interested in providing shelter locations and supporting disaster operations, as well as anyone who wants to help their neighbors by serving as a Red Cross disaster volunteer.
Participants will learn how emergency shelters operate and how volunteers and local partners work together to create safe, welcoming environments for people displaced by disasters. You'll also learn about other Red Cross volunteer opportunities. No experience is required, and lunch will be provided.

We’re proud to recognize Carylon Morgan with the Montana Chapter Engagement Award, honoring her outstanding commitment to supporting communities and strengthening disaster readiness across Montana. ❤️

Since joining the Red Cross in August 2024, Carylon has quickly become a leader in disaster services. She serves as a disaster responder, Disaster Duty Officer, Disaster Training Instructor and National Caseworker, while also supporting shelter operations, feeding efforts and new volunteer onboarding.

“My favorite part of volunteering for the American Red Cross is the ability to consistently help those in need, whether in person or virtually,” Carylon shared. “There are so many different ways to help others, and I LOVE every part of my volunteering and plan on being around for a very long time.”

Shellie Creveling, NW Community Disaster Program Manager, describes Carylon as a dedicated, hardworking volunteer with an eye for detail and a thirst for knowledge.

“She is always open to new experiences and willing to take on stretch assignments without fear,” Shellie said. “She is the kind of volunteer who spots a need and is willing to jump in to problem-solve, working hard to get the job done. Most of all, she is a great CDPM counterpart, and I value her friendship more than anything.”

For Ellen and John Burnside, giving back is a way of life. ❤️

The Idaho Falls couple spends retirement helping others as American Red Cross blood donors and volunteer blood donor ambassadors, welcoming donors at local blood drives and helping create a positive donation experience. They have each donated more than 50 units of blood and continue to give their time in support of patients who rely on lifesaving blood transfusions.

From military service and education careers to volunteer missions and community service, the Burnsides have dedicated decades to helping others. Their story is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to make a difference.

We’re proud to recognize Kathi Tullis with the Biomedical Excellence Chapter Award, honoring her outstanding dedication to blood donors and the patients who depend on lifesaving blood. ❤️

Since joining the Bozeman team as a Blood Donor Ambassador in 2022, Kathi has become an essential part of local blood drive operations. She has contributed 236 volunteer hours since last August, helping create a welcoming experience for every donor who walks through the door.

Whether managing the registration desk, stocking snacks and water, folding shirts or lending a hand wherever needed, Kathi brings kindness and compassion to every shift.

“Kathi is a joy to have as a volunteer,” said LeAnna LeCount, Collections Supervisor for Bozeman and Helena. “She manages the registration desk with ease, always having a welcoming demeanor with the donors. I enjoy seeing her and so does my team. She is an asset to our organization.”

We recently met with James Ouelette of the Montana Hospital Association, who also serves as a Red Cross volunteer, to discuss how we can better support people with access and functional needs during disasters.

Collaboration with dedicated community partners like James helps ensure disaster preparedness and response efforts are more accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of all Montanans.
