The future of America’s nuclear deterrent is coming home to Great Falls.

The Big Sky Post of the Society of American Military Engineers, along with leaders from Cascade County, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Air Force Global Strike Command’s Sentinel Task Force, and the 120th and 341st Civil Engineer Squadrons, hosted Sentinel Industry Day, May 7, 2026, at University of Providence in Great Falls, allowing contractors to learn about the conversion from the Minuteman III to the Sentinel ICBM.

The Sentinel Program will involve major infrastructure projects across Malmstrom and the missile fields leading to the weapon’s deployment.

Inside the Mission: 341st Operations Group and 341st Maintenance Group Keep the ICBM Force on Alert

At Malmstrom Air Force Base, Airmen from the 341st Operations Group and the 341st Maintenance Group form the backbone of America's land-based nuclear deterrent.

Operations Group missileers stand continuous alert, execute nuclear command and control, and maintain the readiness to respond on order. Alongside them, Maintenance Group Airmen inspect, repair, and sustain the Minuteman III weapon system across the missile complex.

Together, they ensure the ICBM force remains safe, secure, and effective every hour of every day.

A successful launch doesn’t happen by chance 🚀

Yesterday, Airmen from the 341st Missile Maintenance Squadron facilitated the launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) during an operational test designated Glory Trip 256 at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.

Dozens of Airmen from Malmstrom gathered to witness the culmination of months of planning, preparation and hard work. The successful launch could not have been possible without the dedication, precision and teamwork of Airmen across the installation who make the mission possible.

From missile maintenance technicians to missileers and countless other professionals working behind the scenes, every career field played a critical role in supporting Glory Trip 256.

While the launch itself may last only moments, it represents months of coordinated effort and disciplined ex*****on. Every checklist completed, every system verified and every team synchronized contributes to a safe, secure and successful launch.

“Our team is the best team in the Air Force,” said Tech. Sgt. Marcus Rondot, 341st Missile Maintenance Squadron missile maintenance team chief. “We were selected because of the trust placed in our experience, discipline and attention to detail. [People] can rest easy knowing that teams like ours are keeping these systems at their peak capabilities every day.”

Glory Trip 256 stands as a testament to the teamwork, professionalism and dedication of the Airmen of the who ensure America’s nuclear surety mission remains strong.

Gen. S.L. Davis, commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, visited Malmstrom Air Force Base to engage with the Airmen who sustain the nation’s nuclear alert mission.​

During his visit, Davis met with missileers, maintainers, Defenders and support personnel across the installation, reinforcing the critical role each one plays in ensuring a safe, secure and effective intercontinental ballistic missile operation. His visit underscored our emphasis on readiness, modernization and Airman development.​

“Our nuclear readiness is absolutely critical, and our Airmen consistently deliver to that high standard,” Davis said. “It is through their unparalleled dedication and technical expertise that we maintain an ICBM force that is always ready.”​
