The Greenville Police Department will be participating in a web-based assessment, November 13-19, 2026 to maintain our accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. The GPD has a long history of accreditation with CALEA due to the dedication to excellence exhibited by all employees of the Greenville Police Department.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to submit comments through the Accreditation Public Comment Portal provided by CALEA. Greenville Police Investigating Shooting at Haywood Mall

Greenville Police responded to a reported shooting in the parking garage at Haywood Mall, located at 700 Haywood Road. One victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. At this time, no suspects are in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

This October, the Greenville Police Department, Bon Secours Wellness Arena, and Greenville County Schools are teaming up to help make sure local students have warm clothing for the winter months.

We’re asking our community to help by donating new or gently used jackets, coats, and other winter essentials for Greenville County Schools students in need.

Remembering Officer James Sorrow

Today, we remember Greenville Police Officer James Sorrow on the 30th anniversary of his End of Watch.

Officer Sorrow proudly served with the Greenville Police Department for four years before making the ultimate sacrifice on September 19, 1996, while attempting to serve a felony warrant.

Thirty years later, we continue to honor his service, his dedication to our community, and the sacrifice he made in the line of duty.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

🚔 Officer in Action🚔

Yesterday, Greenville Police Department officers responded to a call involving a person in crisis who was attempting to jump from the Academy Street Bridge.

When Officer Holder arrived, she immediately began speaking with the man, who was hanging from the bridge and expressed that he was tired and wanted to end his life. Rather than rushing the situation, Officer Holder took the time to listen. For several minutes, she calmly and compassionately engaged with him, showing patience, understanding, and genuine concern for his well-being. She never gave up on him.

Through her compassion and communication, Officer Holder was ultimately able to convince the man to come back over the railing and to safety. The man was then transported to the hospital for further evaluation and assistance.

Situations like this remind us that being a police officer is about more than responding to calls. Sometimes, it means being there for someone during the darkest moment of their life and helping them find a reason to take that next step toward safety. We are incredibly proud of Officer Holder and grateful for the compassion, patience, and professionalism she demonstrated.

Thank you, Officer Holder, for making a difference when it mattered most. 👏🚨

The Greenville Police Department, along with 22 other states, participated in a nationwide human trafficking operation, resulting in the identification of 74 adult victims, 5 juvenile victims, and the arrest of 125 individuals.
