Nature Journaling Workshop for Teens with Kristin Link science illustrator and author of "Discover the Art of Field Sketching."
Thursday, June 18, 2026 / 3:30 - 5:30 pm

In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore nature journaling as a way of paying attend to plants, animals, and landscapes around us. Kristin will share her own nature journal practice and what she includes in her daily sketchbook pages, from observations and questions to colored pencil drawing of natural history subjects. Participates will have guided time to make their own journal pages from real specimens and natural history references. No experience needed. All material provide.

"Convergence: Poetry on Environmental Impacts of War" offers a groundbreaking and vital perspective on war’s destruction of the natural world—the creatures, plants, soil, water, and atmosphere of Earth. In poems and contextual comments, 61 contemporary poets focus on military damages to the ecosystems on six continents and the moon.

Eowyn Ivey is coming to Homer!

Join us at the Homer Public Library on April 23, 6-7 pm with author Eowyn Ivey as she shares insights from her latest book, "Black Woods, Blue Sky," a suspenseful novel with life-and-death stakes about the love between a mother and daughter, and about the lure of a wild life—about what we gain and what it might cost us.

Lifelong Alaskan Eowyn Ivey is the author of the Pulitzer finalist and New York Times bestseller "The Snow Child" and most recently the national bestseller "Black Woods, Blue Sky." Her critically acclaimed novels have been translated into more than 25 languages. She lives with her husband in the Matanuska Valley.

Books will be available for purchase at the event through the Homer Bookstore and are available for check out at the library.

Due to harsh winter weather, the City of Homer is closing all non-essential services at 3pm today, Tuesday January 6th. This includes the Homer Public Library. We expect to resume regular library hours tomorrow, Wednesday, January 7th.
