Volunteers needed! Please join Greens Bayou Coalition in a beautification project at Buckboard Park this Wednesday, October 23.

We have been given a great opportunity to add trees at Buckboard Park a North Houston District Park! And we need your help - in more ways than one!

We are the recipients of a EarthShare Texas Match Grant. An anonymous donor has pledged to donate $20 dollars for each hour volunteered during October, turning volunteer hours into much needed dollars.

Join in and help add some future shade to the mosaic of Buckboard Park and help Greens Bayou Coalition carry our mission into the future!

North Houston District partnership with Houston Dynamo FC, Houston Dash, and U.S. Soccer Foundation brings mini pitch to Wussow Park.

The North Houston mini pitch will be one of 15 around the Bayou City, including 12 that are already up and running. Since 2015, the Foundation has installed more than 650 mini pitches nationwide, working toward a goal of 1,000 by 2026, just in time for the FIFA World Cup 26.

Robert Fiederlein, North Houston District Vice President of Planning and Infrastructure, said the District contacted the Dynamo and Dash hoping to deliver a facility to the community here.

“We saw some news articles about parks that opened in 2022 with mini pitches, so I reached out,” said Fiederlein. “Team officials visited Wussow Park along with folks from the Foundation and toured our area before giving grant approval. We want to be good stewards of our stakeholders’ tax dollars, so we try to find partners for everything we do.”

The Foundation, in conjunction with the Dynamo and Dash, provided a $100,000 Houston Soccer Initiative grant for materials, including the acrylic surface, perimeter fencing, goals, and lighting. The District allocated $125,000 for design, construction, and installation. Once complete, the District will fund ongoing maintenance.

District leadership views the mini pitch project as a jumpstart toward creating a youth soccer complex at Wussow Park, as part of the District’s new Parks Master Plan.

IN THE EDITON, We are excited to announce the Parks Master Plan and share several underway projects. Maintaining and expanding parks and trails is a cornerstone of our work, and, as such, the District recently completed a year-long process of developing a roadmap for new and existing parks. From the 2023 Parks Master Plan, and in partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation, Houston Dynamo FC, and Houston Dash, a new mini-pitch soccer facility is in the works, which should be ready for play by June 2024. Read about how we've enjoyed monumental progress with our Gateway Program over the summer, and save the date for National Night Out on October 3.

I'm excited that we are now making some changes to Greenpoint area BUT I feel like the only thing that I have seen is new housing or should I say new apartments- We need less apartments and more houses. We need more shopping stores and grocery stores. I don't get why we keep getting more apartments WE HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH!

*Several studies have found that when affordable units occur in small quantities (typically less than 50 units), there is typically no impact on neighborhood crime. However, large projects or a large concentration of affordable units within a neighborhood may have the effect of increasing crime.*
**********************************************************************
Coming to Greenspoint: A $77 million, 325-unit affordable housing complex

The complex would reserve all of its units for people making less than 60 percent of the area median income, which would be $47,520 for a Houston family of four, or $33,300 for an individual. Some of the units will be set aside for people making 50 or 30 percent of the AMI, as well.
Thank you North Houston District for trusting us with this one of a kind project!
