Today is the first day of the 2026 school year at Hubbard Schools!

Our city streets will be busy with school buses, students, and families. Please allow yourself extra time and help us make safety a priority.

To help keep everyone safe:

*Be aware of your surroundings.
*Follow posted speed limits.
*Never drive distracted.
*Slow down and use extra caution when school buses have their lights flashing.
*Never pass a school bus when its stop-arm is extended.

Let's all do our part to keep our students, bus drivers, families, and community safe.

The Hubbard Police Department will be conducting a training session on August 19, 2026 from 10am to 6pm in the rear parking lot of Hubbard Schools. You may see a large police presence along with simulated gunfire.

Chief Thompson, Officer Salva, and K-9 Oakley were excited to visit the students at Hubbard Elementary School as part of the Success by Six program.

Success by Six is a two-week program sponsored by United Way of Mahoning Valley and is designed to help prepare children for the transition into kindergarten through fun, educational activities and positive experiences.

We always enjoy spending time with our youngest community members—and Oakley is always a favorite! 🐾💙

The Hubbard City Police Department stands with the Rittman Police Department during this heartbreaking time and extends our deepest condolences to the officer's family, friends, and fellow officers.

On Sunday evening, a Rittman police officer was tragically killed in the line of duty while responding to a disturbance call in Wayne County. Officers and deputies came under immediate gunfire upon arriving at the scene. In addition to the fallen officer, two other officers were injured.

May we never forget the courage and sacrifice of those who put on the badge and risk their lives to protect others. Rest in peace, Officer. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Hubbard Police Department Investigates Domestic Violence Shooting; Suspect Charged with Felonious Assault

July 3, 2026

The Hubbard Police Department is investigating a domestic violence incident that escalated into a shooting during the early morning hours of July 2nd at a residence in the 300 block of Parish Avenue.

Officers were contacted by a female who reported that she had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend and that he fired multiple gunshots in her direction as she fled the residence in her vehicle.

The victim sustained minor injuries consistent with an alleged assault and was evaluated at the scene by Eagle Joint Fire District EMS personnel.

Detective Sergeant Michael Banic obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence. During the search, investigators recovered one spent shell casing from inside the residence and ten additional spent shell casings from the front porch area. A firearm recovered from the living room was determined to be consistent with the recovered shell casings. Investigators also recovered a second firearm and ammunition from the suspect's pickup truck.

The suspect, Sherry Ray Alexander, was arrested and charged with Felonious Assault. He is currently being held at the Trumbull County Jail. The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be filed as investigators continue reviewing the evidence.

This case is a reminder that domestic violence can quickly escalate into life-threatening violence.

No one deserves to be abused. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Victims are encouraged to contact local law enforcement, a trusted family member or friend, or a domestic violence advocacy organization to develop a safety plan and obtain support.

Due to the weather forecasts for high temperatures and heat indexes, the city is asking all residents and businesses to conserve energy, when possible. We especially ask all to conserve usage during peak times, between 3:00PM and 7:00PM.

Tips to help conserve energy:
*Reduce or turn off all non-essential lighting when possible.
*Adjust AC thermostats to higher settings, when possible.
*Run fans in place of AC, when possible.
*78 degrees is a recommended thermostat setting.
*Avoid peak hour appliance usage.
*Use appliances in the early morning or late evening during cooler
temperature times, when possible.
*Unplug small appliances when not in use.

These are just a few recommendations to apply, when possible, that can help drastically cut your energy consumption.

Over the next couple of days, the temperatures will be dangerously high. The heat indices associated with the temperatures will be extremely high. Over the next few days, if possible, limit time spent in direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and check on family and elderly neighbors to ensure they are safe, including pets.
