The Outdoor Warning Siren Test that was previously scheduled for today has been canceled due to pop up showers and thunderstorms moving in early than anticipated.

The next test is scheduled for August 12th.

Heads up, Madison County! We’re expecting daily chances for showers and thunderstorms through the rest of the work week, especially in the afternoons and evenings along and east of I-65. Temperatures will stay warm, with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s and overnight lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Stay weather-aware and take care!

Starting Wednesday, Aug. 5, Huntsville Police officers and Safety Patrol Aides will be in school zones across during busy arrival and dismissal times to help protect students, families and school staff.

With students heading back to class, we're asking every driver to slow down, stay alert and follow school zone laws. Your attention behind the wheel helps create a safer trip to and from school for everyone.

With school starting back in the coming days, we know you’re excited to capture that first-day-of-school moment, but before you post, think about what’s in the background and what’s written on the sign.

DO:
• Take photos in a safe, private location.
• Use a nickname or no name at all.
• Keep the background simple and free of identifying details.

DON’T:
• Photograph in front of your school, street signs, or house numbers.
• Include your child’s full name, age, grade, teacher’s name, or school name.
• Share details that could identify where your child goes to school.

👥 Yesterday, Alabama A&M University hosted its annual Emergency Response Committee meeting, bringing together university staff with city and county first responders to prepare for a safe and successful school year.

⛈️ EMA and the US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama led a hands‑on tabletop exercise, walking everyone through a simulated campus flooding scenario and exploring how a coordinated emergency response would unfold.

🙌 We had a fantastic time collaborating with our partners, strengthening relationships, and building readiness for the year ahead. Already looking forward to next time!
