Calling all local birders! 🦉

We are looking for more route surveyors for our 2023 Christmas Bird Count! The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is one of the longest running citizen science projects in the country. Join the Eagle Creek CBC, sponsored by the Amos Butler Audubon Society, to count all the birds in the Eagle Creek Valley. This year the count will be held on Sunday December 17th, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a pitch-in lunch for all participants at the Ornithology Center 12:00 – 1:00 pm.

To participate, please reach out to the count coordinator, Aidan Rominger, by December 11th so you can be assigned an area or team. Email [email protected] for more information.

If you are a beginning birder, you may be able to join a group that includes at least one experienced birdwatcher. In addition, if your home is within the boundaries of the count circle, you can report the birds that visit your feeder once you have arranged to do so with the count compiler. Happy birding! 🌲🦅

Have you visited the Pathways to Peace Garden on Indiana Avenue? Local Indianapolis youth designed this pocket park as a memorial for young lives lost to violence. The park features serene benches, gardens, a peace pole decorated with prayers and blessings, and a mural of Madam C.J. Walker honoring her legacy.

The first phase of construction will include newly paved trails, a pavilion and plaza with restrooms and parking, a nature-inspired playground, and a fitness loop with outdoor exercise equipment. Today, alongside Mayor Hogsett and community leaders, we cut the ribbon on the new Riverside Promenade! The trail spans from 16th Street to 29th Street along the east side of Riverside Park. Soon, panels exploring the area's culture and history will be placed in each of the seven nodes along the trail. We look forward to seeing the community utilize this great new park amenity!
