In 2007, legislation was passed which approved slot machines at Indiana's pari-mutuel racetracks. Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs both opened their slot operations in June of 2008. The Indiana Thoroughbred Breed Deve

lopment Fund receives 43% of the revenue generated from slot machines that is allocated for Thoroughbred Racing.

Thoroughbred racing returns to Horseshoe Indianapolis Racing & Casino tomorrow, April 7th! Here are some of the trophies for the restricted Indiana Bred/Sired handicaps this season. Opening day will feature two $55,000 overnight handicaps, The Merrill C Roberts and The Brian Elmore. Good luck to race participants!

Congratulations to Sir Bahjy who was crowned 2025 Indiana Horse of the Year!

In 2025 Sir Bahjy finished in the money in five out of seven starts and earned just shy of $300,000. He hit the board in all four of his starts at the stakes level, winning the Unreachable Star Handicap and the Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Handicap, and finishing second in the Governor’s Handicap and the ITOBA Stallion Season Handicap.

He was also named the Champion three-year-old Indiana-sired male and the Champion Claiming Indiana-sired male. His dam Proud Dreamer was named Indiana Broodmare of the Year as a result of Sir Bahjy’s success.

Sir Bahjy is trained by Genaro Garcia and was bred by Bruce and Lori Murphy who are co-owners alongside Southwest Racing Stables. Marcelino Pedroza Jr. is his regular rider. He is sired by Bahjatty who stands at Indiana Stallion Station in Anderson, IN.
