Medicare’s Open Enrollment is the time of year when you can make changes to your Medicare coverage. This period runs from October 15 through December 7.
During Open Enrollment, you can make certain changes to your health insurance coverage, including adding, dropping, or changing your Medicare Advantage and Part D coverage. You can make as many changes as you want during this period, but only your last coverage choice will take effect in January. Need help? Call SHIP at (800) 452-4800
Confused about who pays first, Medicare or another insurance? SHIPs can explain how Medicare works with supplemental policies, retiree coverage, Medicaid, and other insurers. No funny business with SHIPs. Medicare pharmacy or prescription drug fraud occurs when Medicare is billed for a prescription that you did not receive, or if you are purposefully given a different medication than the one your doctor prescribed. Here are some examples of suspected pharmacy or prescription drug fraud, errors, or abuse.
If you suspect potential pharmacy or prescription drug fraud, errors, or abuse, contact your Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP).

November is National Long-Term Care Awareness Month. Long-term care (LTC) is care that helps someone with daily tasks in their home or at a facility.
Though Medicare doesn't cover long-term care services, they are needed by most Medicare beneficiaries and there are other insurance options for coverage.
Depending on how you get your Medicare coverage, you will have different considerations when choosing health care providers, such as doctors, hospitals, or medical equipment suppliers. Learn the factors you should consider so that your care is covered at the lowest cost. With these factors in mind, you can choose your next health care provider! You don't have to do it alone; SHIP is here to help you with Medicare! (800) 452-4800 www.medicare.in.gov
6 things to do during Medicare Open Enrollment. If you have a Medicare health (Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage) or prescription drug (Part D) plan, you should review and compare coverage options yearly. The Open Enrollment runs October 15 through December 7 and is when you can change your plan. Even if you’re happy with your current coverage, you might find a better fit for your budget or your health needs. If you miss an Open Enrollment deadline (12/7), you’ll most likely have to wait a full year before you can change your plan. Have questions? Call SHIP. (800) 452-4800
This month's What to Know Wednesday will focus on Agent Do's and Dont's. This time of the year there is a lot of marketing and advertising for Medicare plans. Learn about insurance agent regulations and marketing rules during this week's What to Know Wednesday presentation.
If you (or your spouse) are getting ready to retire, or if you lose your job-based health insurance before you stop working, you have a limited time to sign up for Medicare without penalty. You may want to consider signing up for Medicare a few months before you retire.

During Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period, you will likely experience more marketing from private Medicare plans, like Medicare Advantage Plans and Part D plans. Companies try to reach consumers in various ways, like television commercials, radio ads, events, mailings, phone calls, and texts. The government has rules, though, to protect you from forceful or misleading marketing. Knowing the rules and red flags can help you make the best choices for yourself during Open Enrollment. Read more about this in our blog at

Medicare's Open Enrollment Period (OEP) begins October 15 and ends December 7. This is the one time each year when ALL people with Medicare have an open enrollment period to make changes to their Medicare Advantage health and Part D prescription drug plans for the next year.
During Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period, you will likely experience more marketing from private Medicare plans in various ways, like television commercials, radio ads, events, mailings, phone calls, and texts.
Remember that you should take your time making enrollment decisions.
