Please join us in congratulating Firefighter/EMT Jonce Hale!

This Saturday (9/26), A-Shift personnel joined Jonce for a ceremony recognizing his successful completion of his probationary period with JGMFD. The ceremony included the traditional climb of the 100-foot aerial ladder to retrieve his station shield - a symbol of the hard work, dedication, and commitment he has demonstrated throughout his first year of service. Along with A-shift personnel from station 37, 38, and 39, Jonce was joined by his Lieutenant Ryan Wheeler, and Battalion Chief Jessica Smith.

We appreciate the dedication and professionalism Firefighter/EMT Jonce Hale has demonstrated since joining JGMFD. We look forward to his continued growth and service to the communities we serve. Jonce is currently assigned to fire station 39.

Please join us in welcoming Roberto Tello to the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District team!

Roberto is our new Public Safety Support Specialist, and brings a strong background in information technology into his new role, with past experience with Wells Fargo, Wright Service Corp. and the City of West Des Moines.

Throughout his career, Roberto has developed extensive expertise in technical support, networking, troubleshooting and system implementation. He is passionate about solving problems, learning new tools and helping others use technology effectively.

Roberto is excited to bring his past municipal experience to JGMPD and looks forward to supporting our staff and the digital infrastructure that serves our communities. Welcome, Roberto!

🚒 Congratulations, Firefighter/EMT Ben Hansen! 🚒

On Wednesday (9/9), B-shift personnel joined Firefighter/EMT Ben Hansen for a ceremony recognizing his successful completion of his probationary period with JGMFD. Please join us in congratulating Ben on this important milestone!

The ceremony included the traditional climb of the 100-foot tower ladder to retrieve his station shield—a symbol of the hard work, dedication, and commitment he has demonstrated throughout his first year of service.
Ben was joined by B-shift personnel from Stations 37, 38, and 39, including his Lieutenant, Tyler Hardenbrook, and Battalion Chief Tristan Johnson.

Today, September 11, 2026, we honor and remember the 2,977 victims of the September 11 attacks, including the 343 FDNY members who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving others.
In their honor, members of the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District completed a 110-story stair climb today, climbing in remembrance of those who never came home.

We will never forget their courage, their sacrifice, and the lives they gave to save others.

343 FDNY members. 2,977 lives. One sacrifice we will never forget.

Today we honor the brave men and women whose lives were lost 25 years ago, on Sept. 11, 2001. We know firsthand the strength of serving together. Today, we join the nation in remembering how unity carries us through our darkest times. May we never forget the sacrifice of the brave as we continue to honor their dedication on this Patriot Day.

Today we honor hard work and celebrate the crews on duty keeping our community safe. To our firefighters and EMS staff working the holiday: thank you for your service and dedication.

Please join us in congratulating A-Shift members Firefighter/Paramedic Jay Pratt and Firefighter/EMT Jacob Kurt on successfully completing their first year of service with the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District!

In keeping with tradition, Jay and Jacob climbed the 100-foot tower ladder to retrieve their station shields, a symbol of the dedication, hard work, commitment, and professionalism they have demonstrated throughout their first year of service. They were joined by fellow A-Shift members, including Battalion Chief Jessica Smith, as they celebrated this important milestone in their careers.

We appreciate the dedication and professionalism Jay and Jacob bring to JGMFD and look forward to their continued growth and service our local communities. Firefighter/Paramedic Pratt brings valuable experience to our department, while Firefighter/EMT Kurt is excited to begin paramedic school this fall.
