Please join us in congratulating Firefighter/EMT Taylor Mehmen on successfully completing her first year of service and probationary period with the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District!

In keeping with department tradition, Taylor has earned her station shield, a symbol of the hard work, commitment, and professionalism she has demonstrated throughout her first year. She was joined by several members of the B-Shift to celebrate this important milestone.

We appreciate Taylor's dedication and look forward to watching her grow in her career. This fall, she will take the next step by attending paramedic school, and we wish her the very best as she continues her professional development.

Congratulations, Taylor, and thank you for your commitment to the JGMFD and the communities we proudly serve! 🚒👏

It’s moments like these that remind us why training matters.

When members of our community need help, our crews are ready to respond. Water rescues require skill, teamwork, and preparation, which is why our first responders train regularly to be ready for whatever the situation may bring.

We’re proud of the dedication our crews show every day to help keep our community safe.

A kayaker was rescued from Beaver Creek with no injuries after Johnston-Grimes firefighters trained for the swift-water hazards they faced.

The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District (JGMFD) responded to a call on Beaver Creek at approximately 2:00 PM today to rescue two kayakers who got caught in the fast-moving flood water. Please avoid Beaver Creek and the Des Moines River at this time. Strong currents and debris are creating hazardous conditions. Stay safe and keep your distance from the water's edge.
