My latest column about governance and our council-manager form of government has been published in the May issue of the Lawrence Gazette.

This month’s column will step back from the issues that the township is facing and instead focus on governance and how a community, in this case Lawrence Township, organizes itself.

In case you missed it at our last council meeting, the 2026 municipal budget was passed. As she has done so well over the years, Lawrence Ledger reporter Lea Kahn reports on the budget highlights and the drivers of our municipal tax increase.

Lawrence Township property owners will see a two-cent municipal property tax rate increase - the first increase since 2023 - under the $60.9 million 2026

Wishing all the best to the children of Lawrence and Ewing starting their seasons with their teams. I can remember all the fun I had playing baseball growing up as well as lessons I learned that I still use today. Thank you to the families and coaches for all that you do to be the village for our children. Let's Play Ball!

Update on "toxic gas" claims.

UPDATE: No Gas Leak Detected on Brunswick Ave/Lake Drive
Following a citizen report last week, Lawrence Township dispatched our Emergency Management Coordinator and worked with PSE&G to conduct a thorough investigation of the Brunswick Avenue and Lake Drive area -- including wooded and creek areas -- using advanced methane detection equipment. PSE&G confirmed no gas leak was present. A prior inspection by the Township's Health Inspector also found no evidence of methane or hazardous gases.
We take every public safety concern seriously and will always respond promptly. If you ever suspect a gas leak, call 911 and PSE&G immediately. Read full release here: https://tinyurl.com/nogasleak

At last night’s Planning Board meeting, a resident stated that Educational Testing Service (ETS) paid no property taxes. I replied that they do in fact pay property taxes, but I misspoke and gave the assessed value of the property instead of the amount paid. In 2025, ETS paid $2,706,075 in municipal, school, and county taxes. I’ll add a link in the comments to the tax viewer on the Township website.
