Thirdhand smoke can have an everlasting impact on the health of those exposed and is increasingly dangerous to children. The chemicals in thirdhand smoke can:
- Increase the risk of cancer
- Reduce ability to heal injuries
- Damage cells
- Make respiratory illness worse
- Increase risk of disease
- Damage DNA
- Lower ability to fight infection

The residue does not air out quickly it can continue to remain in carpets, walls and dust for weeks, months or even years. Please keep infants and children protected from these harmful chemical compounds!

🚗 Did You Know? Child Car Seat Safety Matters! 🚗

Central Montana Health District is excited to share that we now have two certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians on staff!

Our technicians can help families:
✅ Choose the right car seat or booster seat for their child
✅ Ensure the seat is installed correctly
✅ Answer questions about child passenger safety
✅ Provide education on best practices as children grow

Why is this important? Studies have found that nearly 46% of observed car seats and booster seats are used incorrectly, which can increase a child's risk of injury or death in a crash.

Even the best car seat can’t provide its full protection if it isn't used properly.
If you have questions about your child's car seat, need help with installation, or would like a car seat check, we're here to help!

📞 Contact Central Montana Health District to learn more or schedule a car seat safety check at (406) 535-3983.

Every child deserves the safest ride possible. ❤️

Spring has been a whirlwind at Central Montana Health District!

Spring is often conference and training season in public health, and the past 9 weeks have kept our team moving across Montana and beyond.

Here’s what our staff has been up to:
1. Completed immunization training to stay current on best practices.
2. Attended the annual Public Health Confluence Conference.
3. Sent two employees to Child Passenger Safety Technician training.
4. Wrapped up our spring vaccination clinics across the district.
5. Represented CMHD at the NASTTPO conference through our Associate Public Health Director.
6. Participated in a Public Health Emergency Preparedness Workshop to plan next year’s emergency preparedness efforts for our communities.

Out in the community, we’ve also been focused on prevention and education by offering:
• Adult Mental Health First Aid trainings.
• Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings.
• QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) su***de prevention trainings.
• ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) education.
• To***co and ni****ne education programs.

All of this travel and training helps our team bring updated knowledge, stronger partnerships, and better services back to central Montana.

Now that the spring training rush is winding down, we’re hoping to be more active and present here on social media until fall conference season arrives.

Thanks for following along and supporting public health in our communities!
