Our New Polaris Sportsman arrived today! We'd like to thank the Central Montana Foundation for generously supporting the acquisition of this ATV, which will be used on future Search & Rescue events to cover more ground quickly. CMSAR is an all-volunteer organization funded by generous support from our community.

From night searches to assisting an injured hiker, it's been a busy past couple of weeks for the CMSAR team!

On August 26, Fergus County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) activated Central Montana Search and Rescue to assist in the rescue of a hiker who had a severe leg injury and was unable to get out of their location. With the help of FCSO, BLM, and CMMC Ambulance, the hiker was successfully brought to safety.

On September 7, CMSAR was activated to assist in the search of a lost individual in the Uhlhorn Trailhead area, operating the incident command post, hasty search teams, and a drone team throughout the night. The individual made contact the next morning, has been found, and is safe.

What a weekend! Our team attended a campout and bear/predator training hosted by American Prairie on Saturday, followed by a high-angle rope-rescue training with Lewistown Fire on Sunday. Our volunteers are puttin' in WORK, and are looking forward to seeing you at the Chokecherry Festival!

We had our annual refresher/basic training last week! After spending the morning in the classroom, we got out for a field exercise. The weather was classic – hot and dry in the morning, then thunderstorms and heavy rain shortly after. We would be nothing without our volunteer responders. They donate their time to help neighbors and visitors enjoy the our backcountry and get home safely – thank you!

Our volunteer responders had a blast working on their snowmobile skills a few weeks ago. These machines have become an important tool in our arsenal as riders are getting deeper into the backcountry.
