Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen reminds early voters that ballots must be received no later than 8:00 PM on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3rd. Through Tuesday, October 27th, the Election Commission has received about 35,000 of the 45,500 early vote ballots it has issued for the Statewide General Election.

Commissioner Wiltgen encourages voters to return their ballots promptly and not wait until the last minute.

“Yesterday was the last day early voters should mail their ballots allowing the U.S. Postal Service to process them” said Commissioner Wiltgen. “The best method to return early vote ballots now would be to drop them off at one of the secure drop boxes. Ballots received after 8:00 PM next Tuesday will not be counted.”

Lancaster County Secure Drop Box Locations:

Anderson Branch Library, 3635 Touzalin Avenue
Eiseley Branch Library, 1530 Superior Street
Gere Branch Library, 2400 South 56th Street
Walt Branch Library, 6701 South 14th Street

The drop boxes are emptied daily by two election officials of differing parties and monitored by video surveillance.

Commissioner Wiltgen also reminds voters the statutory deadline to request an early vote ballot by mail for the general election was last Friday, October 23rd at 6:00 PM. Voters who submitted a request after the deadline will be receiving a postcard outlining their voting options for the general election.

They may either vote at their regular polling place on election day, or if the voter still wants to vote early, the voter or an agent may come to the office to pick up an early vote ballot. Early in-person voting at the Election Commission is also available through 5:00 PM on Monday, November 2nd. Voters will need to vote at their polling place on election day. Agents may pick up ballots at the Election Commission until 7:00 PM on election day.

Below are the remaining and extended office hours for early voting:

Thursday, October 29th 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Saturday, October 31st 9:00 AM to Noon
Monday, November 2nd 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Voters may experience varied wait times between 10 minutes to an hour during the day at the Election Commission. The longest wait times are occurring over the lunch hour. Voters with a physical impediment limiting their ability to stand who require assistance should notify an election official when they arrive at the Election Commission.

Any voter who submitted an early vote ballot by-mail request for Statewide General Election and has not received their ballot should contact the Election Commissioner’s office at (402) 441-7311.

Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen announces extended office hours for early voting for the November 3rd General Election.

The deadline to request an early vote ballot by mail has passed. Voters may still vote in-person or pick up an early vote ballot at the Election Commission office through Monday, November 2nd. Agents may pick up an early vote ballot until 7:00 PM on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3rd. Voters may serve as an agent for two voters per election.

Normal office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Extended office hours are listed below:

Tuesday, October 27th 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Thursday, October 29th 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Saturday, October 31st 9:00 AM to Noon
Monday, November 2nd 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Voters are reminded they will need to present a valid photo identification such as a Nebraska Driver’s License, State ID, or another valid photo identification, or complete a reasonable impediment certification before they will be issued a ballot. The ID must have the voter’s name and photo. It may be expired and does not need to include an address. For more information about Nebraska Voter ID requirements, visit voterID.nebraska.gov

Voters may experience wait times. Voters requiring assistance should notify an election official.

TODAY - October 23rd - is the deadline to:

*Register to vote for the November 3rd General Election by coming into the office at 601 N 46th St, Lincoln, and registering with one of our staff members.

*Request that an early vote ballot be mailed to you. An early voter request form is available on the Election Commissioner’s website at: lancaster.ne.gov/election Voters who do not have access to a printer may also submit a handwritten request.

Requests must be received by 6:00 pm. Completed requests may be dropped off at any drop box location listed below:

Starting Monday, October 26th, early voters in Lancaster County will need to obtain their General Election ballot in person at our office or vote in-person at the Election Commission.

Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen reminds eligible voters the deadline for registering to vote in the November 3rd Statewide General Election is tomorrow, Friday, October 23rd at 6:00 PM. Voters must now register to vote in person at the Election Commission Office since the online and postmark voter registration deadlines have passed.

Commissioner Wiltgen also emphasizes the deadline for a voter to request a ballot be mailed to them for general election is also tomorrow Friday, October 23rd at 6:00 PM.

State law permits any registered voter to cast an early ballot. However, voters must request that ballot request in writing. An early voter request form is available on the Election Commissioner’s website at: www.Lancaster.ne.gov/Election
Voters who do not have access to a printer may also submit a handwritten request.

In addition to providing their name, address and signature, voters must also include a Nebraska Driver’s License or State ID Number; or a photocopy of another valid photo identification; or a reasonable impediment certification. TOMORROW (Friday, October 16th) is the deadline to register to vote (or update your name, address, and/or political party) by the following means:

*Prior to midnight October 16th, online voter registration completed https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/voterview/

*Mailed-in voter registrations must be postmarked by October 16th

*By close of business on October 16th (4:30 pm), completed voter registration form received in one of our Election Drop Boxes found outside of our office as well as outside Anderson, Eiseley, Gere, and Walt Libraries

Those who do not get registered by that time, still have until Friday, October 23rd at 6:00 pm to come into the Election Commission at 601 N 46th St, Lincoln, to register to vote in person with a staff member. Usual office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-4:30 pm, but we are open until 6:00 pm on October 23rd.

In-person early voting began Oct. 5 and continues through Nov. 2 at the Lancaster County Election Commission office, 601 N. 46th St. The office is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Extended hours are:

Friday, October 23 - 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Tuesday, October 27 - 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Thursday, October 29 - 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Saturday, October 31 - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Monday, November 2 - 7:00 am - 5:00 pm

The deadline to register or update voter registration online is Friday, Oct. 16. Mailed registration applications must be postmarked by that date. People who miss that deadline can register or update their information in person at the Election Commission office until 6 p.m. Oct. 23.

Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. is also the deadline for the office to receive requests for early voting ballots to be mailed. People registering in person can also vote during their visit.

People voting in person should bring an acceptable photo ID, such as a Nebraska driver’s license, Nebraska state ID or U.S. passport. Wiltgen said Nebraska licenses and state IDs can be expired, but driver’s licenses and state IDs issued by other states are not accepted.

The Post Office recommends that if you return your ballot by mail, you mail it no later than one week before the deadline to receive it. Our office must RECEIVE your early vote ballot by 8:00 pm on Election Day, November 3, 2026.

You can also return your early vote ballot by 8:00 pm on Election Day, November 3rd, to one of our secure election drop boxes located outside the following:
