Today is the day!

TOMORROW: Make your voice heard for Head Start

Head Start has served over 40 million children over the past 60 years, providing critical child care and comprehensive services to families across the nation.

A newly proposed federal rule would roll back many of the standards that keep Head Start programs safe, high-quality, and accessible. If enacted, these changes could:

❌ Reduce child care access
❌ Increase classroom sizes
❌ Lower protections for children with disabilities
❌ Diminish teacher qualification standards

Tomorrow, Thursday, August 13, join a national call-in day to ask your Member of Congress to call on the Department of Health and Human Services to stop these proposed rule changes.

To call, visit: https://actionnetwork.org/call_campaigns/tell-congress-to-stop-rfks-attack-on-head-start/?source=headstarttoolkit
Or text HEADSTART to 855-714-1332

It takes less than five minutes to make a call that matters.

What is informing your current work? The work that most shapes what I do right now comes from four researchers and clinicians (Daniel Siegel, Deb Dana, Mona Delahooke and Lori Desaultes) who all point toward the same truth: connection is the foundation, not the reward and that the moments of attunement and repair we offer shape developing nervous systems in lasting ways.

This month, our Recreation Tools for Nervous System Regulation group focused on the Autonomic Nervous System Ladder. Members explored what each stage of the ladder looks and feels like, and reflected on how these states manifest individually. The session's activity involved creating collages representing personal experiences across the various nervous system states.
Watch for our upcoming flyer, as a new series for this group will launch in September 2026!

The World Cup is the loudest event on Earth. Eighty thousand voices, drums, horns, fireworks, floodlights. For millions of fans, that’s the magic. For autistic fans, it can be the wall that keeps them outside.

Not this time.

For the first time in the tournament’s history, the 2026 World Cup earned Sensory Inclusive certification, and every single one of the 16 stadiums across the US, Canada and Mexico has a sensory room. A quiet, dimmed space with soft seating and calming tools, where anyone overwhelmed by the noise can regulate and then go back to the match. All 104 games, no exceptions.

It goes further than the rooms. Fans can pick up free sensory bags with noise-reducing headphones and fidget tools. Social-story guides help people know exactly what to expect before they even arrive. And stadium staff were trained by KultureCity to recognize sensory overload and respond with patience instead of panic.

This isn’t just for autistic fans, either. It’s there for anyone with sensory needs, including veterans with PTSD, people with dementia, and anxious first-time fans.

The biggest sporting event on the planet just told millions of people: you don’t have to choose between who you are and being in the room where it happens.

Every stadium, everywhere, should take notes.
