Tomorrow is food distribution day at William Wetsel Middle School beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Free food for ALL children ages 1-18.

Good morning! This is a quick update from the Sun Meal Food Distribution program. We have leftover food available from yesterday's event. We will be at Wetsel Middle School starting at 10:00 a.m. this morning. This is open to anyone who was unable to pick up food yesterday. Supplies are limited and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Thank you, and we hope to see you there!

Madison County Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Zachary McLearen as the division's new Activities Director. A Madison County High School graduate and former intern with Madison County Parks and Recreation, McLearen returns to the community with a strong background in athletic administration, recreation programming, and sports marketing.

Most recently, McLearen served as Assistant Athletic Director for the City of Burlington, North Carolina. He also worked as Intramural Sports Coordinator at Liberty University, where he helped coordinate recreational and competitive opportunities for students. In addition, he served as Director of Social Media for ASeaofRed.com, gaining valuable experience in communications, marketing, and community engagement.

McLearen holds a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and also earned a Master of Science in Sport Management with a concentration in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Liberty University.

"We are excited to welcome Zachary McLearen to Madison County Public Schools," said Superintendent Dr. Anna Graham. "His professional experience, educational background, and previous connection to our community make him an excellent fit for this position. We look forward to the leadership and enthusiasm he will bring to our athletic programs."

As Activities Director, Zachary McLearen will oversee the division's athletic programs, support coaches and student-athletes, and work with families and community members to continue building a culture of excellence in Madison athletics.

"It is truly an honor to return home to Madison County in this role," said McLearen. "I am so grateful to God for this opportunity. Serving as an Activities Director has long been a professional dream of mine, and I am humbled and excited to support Madison County's students and community while building upon the strong culture of excellence within our school system. I look forward to working alongside our students, coaches, and families to build on the proud tradition of Madison County athletics."

McLearen will begin his duties as Athletic Director on July 1, 2026.

🏆 William Wetsel Middle School Raises the Bar for Attendance 🏆
Throughout the school year, our grade levels competed each week for the Golden Attendance Bar as part of our theme, “Raising the Bar.” Students worked hard to be present, engaged, and ready to learn, making attendance a school-wide priority.

🎉 Year-End Attendance Competition Results:
🥇 6th Grade – Attendance Champions!
Weekly Attendance Average: 94.5%
Total Points: 3,225
Quarter Winners: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Quarters
🥈 7th Grade
Weekly Attendance Average: 93.5%
Total Points: 3,010
🥉 8th Grade
Weekly Attendance Average: 93.3%
Total Points: 2,840
Quarter Winners: 1st Quarter

Each week, grades battled for the top spot and the opportunity to claim the Golden Attendance Bar. The competition created excitement, encouraged school pride, and highlighted the importance of being at school every day.
Congratulations to all of our students and families for supporting strong attendance throughout the year! A special congratulations to our 6th Grade Attendance Champions for finishing on top and truly raising the bar! ⭐

🌼 Thank You, Madison Garden Club! 🌼

Today, Wetsel Middle School was honored to receive a beautiful flower arrangement from the Madison Garden Club in celebration of National Garden Week (June 7–13).

The arrangement brightened our day and serves as a wonderful reminder of the beauty that gardens bring to our lives.

💙🧡 WYES Hard Hat Highlight! 💙🧡

As we wrap up another incredible school year, we are excited to recognize our final WYES Hard Hat Highlight recipient of the year, Mrs. Suzanne Boggs! 👷‍♀️✨

Mrs. Boggs began this school year as an instructional assistant and quickly stepped into a new role as a full-time substitute teacher for a fourth-grade classroom. Throughout this transition, she has shown tremendous dedication, flexibility, and commitment to both students and staff.

Not only has she done a wonderful job supporting and leading her students each day, but she is also close to completing her degree in elementary education—reflecting her passion for learning and her commitment to the field. Her care for students and willingness to step up wherever needed have made a meaningful impact at Waverly Yowell Elementary this year.

Mrs. Boggs has truly been an important part of our WYES crew, and we are excited for all that the future holds for her in education. We look forward to the many ways she will continue to make a difference in the years ahead! 💙🧡
