James Rumsey Technical Institute James Rumsey Technical Institute is the area technical school with career/technical programs for adult and high school students.

James Rumsey Technical Institute is the designated technical school for Berkeley, Morgan, and Jefferson County school districts as well as a premier Adult Prep institute in the four state area. Career and technical education opportunities are available for high school students and adult learners in a wide variety of fields. Our career and technical education programs at James Rumsey are designed

and validated by business and industry standards and are approved and/or accredited by the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges (NCA). JRTI's Adult Prep programs have also attained candidacy staturs for accredidation under COE. Secondary students earn elective high school credits and, in articulated programs, will earn college credits (EDGE) while still in high school. Adult students in our Adult Prep programs can earn industry certification in a wide selection of career choices. Our instructors and staff are current and credentialed in their areas of expertise by the West Virginia State Board of Education.

The Business Relationships Development Coordinator will serve as a vital link between James Rumsey Technical Institute, local businesses, industry partners, and community organizations. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships that enhance student learning, expand work-based learning opportunities, and strengthen the connection between JRTI’s programs and workforce needs.

Additionally, the coordinator will research and pursue grant opportunities to support school initiatives and ensure the long-term sustainability of this position.

As summer winds to a close, we are so excited to greet our students tomorrow as another school year is set to start!

There will be some administrative changes this year. Dr. Carissa Tress departed from her position of Assistant Director/Principal earlier this month. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Tress for her time with JRTI, and we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors!

We are so excited to announce that Shelby Glover has transitioned into the Assistant Director/Principal role. Originally hired earlier this year as the Business Relationship Development Coordinator, Shelby was a natural fit for the Assistant Director/Principal role. JRTI's new Plumbing program gives current sophomores the hands-on training and real-world skills to enter one of the most in-demand trades out there. Classes begin this August and spots are still available.
