Due to construction in the roadway, Summer Street will be closed between 1 Summer Street and the Summer Street/Nason Street intersection. Glendale Street is open.

The Emerson and Naylor Court parking lots will be closed at their Summer Street entrances. The Naylor Court parking lot will remain open for parking and can be accessed via Main Street or Nason Street.

There are Detail Officers on scene to assist.

The Town’s new Solid Waste, Recycling and Yard Waste Program goes live July 1! Register TODAY (or by June 17 at the latest!) to ensure that your E.L. Harvey-issued trash cart and annual registration sticker get delivered to your curbside the week of June 22 – 26. To register or to learn more, go to the Solid Waste & Recycling web page at: https://townofmaynard-ma.gov/252/Solid-Waste-Recycling You may also complete a paper registration form, found at the Maynard Public Library, the Council on Aging, or the Department of Public Works Office at Town Hall.

Note: If you scroll below the registration link, everything you ever wanted to know (and more!) about the new program is listed on the Solid Waste & Recycling page: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), detailed information about the $15/month and $25/month two main choices, slide decks from public meetings about the program, etc. Prefer to receive your information on paper? This week’s Action Unlimited has a full-page informational ad, and a third large postcard will arrive in your mailbox shortly.

Registration Tips:
1) Scroll past the first few lines imploring you to sign in via google or other social media. That is a “baked in” CivicPlus piece that we cannot change.
2) Before you click submit, be sure to enter your email a second time. Again, a “baked in” CivicPlus piece that we cannot change, but this one is very important. If you don’t enter your email there, you won’t receive a copy of your registration form. No worries, though, you will still be registered!

Important Rollout Reminders:
- Only buy enough $2 or $4 stickers to last you through June 30.
- Be sure to check the Town’s Solid Waste & Recycling web page each week for the latest updates. Link above. (The Weekly Rollout Update section will be updated every Monday evening with any new details that we need to communicate.)
- We will swap any surplus stickers for orange occasional overflow bags in late summer. The same timing applies to old/damaged trash or recycling cart drop off days.

A Thank You Reward Game!
To thank everyone who has already registered, we are randomly selecting one or two residents each day and hiding their names on the Solid Waste & Recycling web page noted above. The fun starts tomorrow! Names will only stay up for one day, so be sure to check daily. 😊 If you find your name there, email the Solid Waste Management Coordinator, Linde Ghere, at [email protected]. We’ll arrange a time for you to pick up your “thank you prize” (or we can deliver between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. – your choice) of an orange occasional overflow bag!

The Maynard Police Department shares our condolences with the Dedham Police Department this morning. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the department and the family and friends of Sgt. James Quigley.

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of active-duty Sergeant James Quigley. Jim left us earlier today after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his battle, Jim continued to serve our community with commitment and selflessness.

Jim joined the Dedham Police Department on August 31, 2015. After 2+ years assigned to uniformed patrol, Jim’s demonstrated skills earned him the opportunity to serve as a detective. Jim spent several years conducting drawn out investigations which require advanced training and knowledge. On August 22, 2022, Jim was promoted to Police Sergeant where he represented the Dedham Police Department at the Dedham District Court. In this role, Jim worked with the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office and court personnel as cases made their way through the court system. He proudly served as an advocate for domestic violence victims while leading the effort to develop a program for law enforcement officers to support victims.

Jim was a man of great character, integrity and intelligence. As a quiet leader within the Dedham Police Department, he led through the quality of his work and integrity. Jim was proud to serve our community and of his family’s past police service. Even more so, Jim was immeasurably proud of and devoted to his family. We ask you to remember Jim’s family at this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in Peace, Sergeant James Quigley.

When people think about public safety, they often think of police officers responding to emergencies. But many calls involve individuals experiencing mental health crises, substance use challenges, trauma, or other behavioral health needs that require specialized support.

That's where co-response clinicians make a difference. Co-response clinicians work alongside law enforcement officers to provide immediate mental health assessments, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and connections to community resources. Their presence helps ensure that individuals receive the most appropriate care and support during some of their most vulnerable moments. The Maynard Police Department is proud to co-respond regularly with Emily Black, LICSW - a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker whose efforts, in 2025, helped decrease behavioral incidents in Town of Maynard, Massachusetts by 37% compared to 2024! Emily works with Carlisle, Concord, and Maynard Police Departments as part of the Statewide Jail Diversion Program.

Take a look at some of the work we did during this year's first quarter!

-Our co-response team documented a total of 114 mental health involvements, which included 50 new referrals and 64 follow-up referrals
-Emily responded to 5 NEMLEC CISM callouts to support officers in neighboring communities following critical incidents
-Emily attended collaboration meetings with local partners (Emerson Hospital, DMH, DVSN)
-Organized internal at-risk meetings to address the needs of our most vulnerable community members
-Attended Mental Health Court at Concord District Court bi-weekly
-Supported individuals and their families in petitioning for court mandated substance use treatment

By continuing to combine the expertise of behavioral health professionals like Emily with the public safety mission of law enforcement, co-response programs create a more compassionate, effective, and community-centered approach to crisis response. Investing in co-response clinicians is an investment in safer communities, better outcomes, and a stronger continuum of care for those who need it most.

*Upcoming Maynard Jazz Festival Road Closure: Saturday, June 13th, 2026*

Summer Street will be closed from approximately 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM between 1 Summer Street and the Summer Street/Nason Street intersection. There will also be no through traffic on Glendale Street during this time.

The Emerson and Naylor Court parking lots will be closed at their Summer Street entrances. The Naylor Court parking lot will remain open for parking and can be accessed via Main Street or Nason Street.

Parking on Brooks Street and Maple Street will be permitted on one side of the street only. Cones and signs will be posted to indicate where parking is allowed.

Police officers will be on scene from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM to assist with traffic control and answer any questions or concerns.

Recycling Drop-Offs & Small Brush Chipping will occur this Saturday, June 13 from 8 am to 12 noon at Maynard’s Department of Public Works (DPW) facility at 38 Winter Street. This will be the last Recycling Drop-Off Day until September.

For a list of items accepted at the recycling drop-off event, and pricing, go to the Recycling Drop Off page on the town website, then scroll toward the bottom for the fee schedule.

Brush must be 6 inches or less in diameter and 3 feet or less in length. No root balls or vines, as those tangle the equipment. Chipping fees will be based on the size of the brush piles, with a $25 minimum fee applying to small chipping loads. Larger loads will cost more.

Residents only; no business or commercial drop offs for recycling and chipping. Credit/debit cards or checks written to the Town of Maynard will be accepted (no cash).
