MAY SUMMARY - In May, your Milan Area Firefighters responded to 146 calls for service bringing our year total to 555.

While emergency response is our most visible responsibility, a significant part of our mission focuses on fire prevention and public education. Through fire inspections, pre-incident planning, community outreach events, smoke alarm education, and safety programs, we work every day to reduce risks and help prevent emergencies before they occur.

Medical emergencies continue to make up the largest portion of our call volume, which is common for fire departments across the country. Our firefighters are trained to provide lifesaving medical care and often arrive several minutes before the transporting ambulance, allowing treatment to begin as quickly as possible.

We remain committed to responding whenever our community needs us. Thank you for your continued support of the Milan Area Fire Department!

MEMORIAL DAY

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to something greater than themselves continue to inspire us today. From all of us at the Milan Area Fire Department, we honor their memory and remain grateful for the freedoms they helped preserve. We will never forget.

We would also like to thank the Milan American Legion for hosting an excellent Memorial Day service this morning and for their continued commitment to honoring our nation’s fallen heroes.

COMPLETION OF PROBATION

The Milan Area Fire Department is proud to announce that Firefighters Lewis Gerten and Travis Hamilton have officially completed their probationary period.

Both Lewis and Travis were hired in September 2024 and have completed nearly 1,000 hours of training through the EMT Academy, Fire Academy, and extensive in house department training. Please join us in congratulating Firefighters Gerten and Hamilton on successfully completing probation. We are proud of the hard work, professionalism, and commitment they have shown and look forward to their future with the department.

We were honored to have this event take place at our station and to be part of such a meaningful community effort. Thank you to the organizers and all who attended for helping make it a great experience for everyone involved.

Neurodivergent children and families got a low-pressure chance to meet first responders, explore emergency gear and connect with service and therapy dogs during a safety day designed to make emergencies feel a little less unfamiliar.
