Hello, Milwaukee!
A friendly reminder that our emergency warming room is open at 7pm overnight whenever the temperature is 32 or below. We repurposed some rooms and hired 3 additional staff to ensure we have enough room for social distancing.
If you can, please help us with our expenses. Every little bit helps!

***ANNOUNCEMENT***
Due to lack of staffing, we cannot currently accept clothing donations and our Emergency Warming Room is closed. This is temporary.

Started in 1991, Repairers of the Breach serves 80 people per day.
New Years has a special meaning to our Members, because it means a fresh start. Fresh coffee helps, too, and you can find both at Repairers of the Breach. Whether a Member yourself, staff, volunteer, donor, or visitor, all are welcomed here. Come get your fresh coffee and fresh start!
On this snowy day, let us think of better times... like Christmas! Here at the Breach, our Members chose gifts like socks, undergarments, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, scarves, boots, watches, blankets, backpacks, and jeans. In addition, coats were given away, and there was also a raffle for every 10 Members that came through (numbers limited to 10 at a time for COVID safety). What did our Members win? Gift cards!
Today is winter solstice, and tonight is our longest night of the year. It's also Homeless Persons' Memorial Day, when we remember those who have died while experiencing homelessness. In 2020, that number was estimated to be 15,600 people.
It is with reverence to those who have passed, and a commitment to those without shelter now, that we announce that our emergency warming room will now be open at 32 degrees instead of 20 degrees.
Help keep us open. No one should freeze due to lack of housing.

Imagine going to a job interview in clothes that you've been wearing for days. Imagine your hair disheveled, despite doing your best to straighten it. You sit there, in a waiting room, along with other applicants in clean suits and polished shoes. Think about your confidence level. Think you'll get the job?
Now, imagine being freshly washed, hair combed, and you, too, are looking dapper in a clean suit and polished shoes. Where is your confidence level now?
That's what our Refuge and Resource Center program -clothing room and shower services do for someone. They level the playing field, so that you have just as much chance for the job as the others.
Thank you to all the donors and volunteers who make this possible.

BRRRR! It's a chilly one today. If you're out in the weather, stop in and grab a hot cup of coffee. We have warm clothes if you need them, too!
As we begin feverishly shopping for our loved ones, let us remember those who are left out of the festivities because they are too busy looking for their next meal or shelter.
Did you know $8 covers warm coffee, a sustaining breakfast, and a hearty lunch for one person each day at Repairers of the Breach? $25 covers phone services for 2 days? $50 covers our energy bill for a day?
This Giving Tuesday, November 30th, consider the gift of hope.

A great time was had by all at our Annual Meeting. A few pictures. It was very informative and heartening and FUN! Thanks to everyone who was there. If you couldn't be here, mark your calendar for October 2019!
If you've been wondering how Repairers of the Breach is doing financially, take a look at this short video from the Annual Meeting last Saturday. The answer is that we are doing VERY well!!! And it is 100% because of our donors. Thank you for everything you do to make RotB a success!!
What a wonderful day we had at Repairer's of the Breach on Labor Day. Here are some highlights from photos taken by our volunteers that day. Thanks to one and all. Y'all are the best! Special shout out to the sisters of Gamma Pi Sigma who have made this a yearly event!
An Outpouring of Love A week ago, we hit a water shortage and put out an appeal for water. And through your kindness, the water came pouring in. We are humbled by your support and by your generosity. Because of you who heard our call and spread the word, like an endless waterfall, the water has poured in! Thank you to all the water bearers who heard our need and quickly responded!
Happy 4th of July! What a perfect day to post pictures of our refurbished Peace Garden. Planting of boxes done by St. Mary's Eight Grade Graduation Class. The painting of shed done by St. Mary's workday kids. And the painting of the benches done by Thayer from another volunteer group (maybe someone can fill that in below :) ). Isn't it MARVELOUS!! Many hands!
Channel 6 Fox News was onsite for an interview at the Labor Day Picnic today. Some pics and a brief portion of the interview with Executive Director James West (sorry the audio isn't great). Watch for the report tonight on Channel 6!
What a great time we had this morning meeting, greeting and thanking members of Milwaukee Police Department Homeless Outreach Team with breakfast at the Grohmann Museum on the Milwaukee School of Engineering campus. Working with the Outreach Team is another way that Repairers of the Breach partners with our community to identify, engage, and support Milwaukee's homeless community. The morning program included a video describing the importance of this program to both the Milwaukee Police and ROTB put together by Jeremy of the PRSA public relations volunteers. During our coldest months, these officers brought many to our doors for warmth and sustenance. We thank them with all of our hearts and wish them safe journey.
Tomorrow is World Homeless Day (10/10/16). Just got home from Milwaukee Empty Bowls Event. If you haven't been to an Empty Bowls, potters and kids donate bowls that they have made and restaurants donate soup and the Empty Bowls people sell the bowls and you get to use the bowl to sample the soups. I went to help staff a booth and take photographs for Repairers of the Breach. As most of you know, Repairers provides two meals a day - breakfast and lunch, a warm place for people to come during the day, a clinic, and resources to help the homeless get back on their feet. Today, through the generosity of hundreds of people, the event broke its stated goal of $55,000 in three hours. Repairers is one of seven programs who will benefit from Milwaukee's support. Thank you Milwaukee School of Engineering for the venue and thank you Milwaukee!!
From weeds to tomatoes on the vine! At Repairers of the Breach, our members have been working hard on the side Peace Garden...and does it look smashing!! We are hoping that in this fine weather, everyone will make more use of it.
Summer is here and the heat is upon us! Come on over to Repairers of the Breach Center, cool off and participate in some of the programing. Check out the white board near the side entrance, sign in. Check in at the front desk to participate. Thursdays the computer lab is open 9-1, lunch is 11:30-1:30, and the clinic is open 9:30-12:30. Come on by! We've got our smiles on waiting for you!
