Did you know that there’s another version of the Transgender Pride Flag? Learn more as our Youth Social Media Committee shares the history of this important flag for :

"The Black Transgender Flag It was created in 2015 by Raquel Willis, who is a black trans activist!

She changed the white stripe from the original flag to a black stripe to highlight the increased discrimination that black transgender people face. Just like the original flag, it still has the pink and blue stripes representing transgender women and men, respectively.

The original Transgender Pride Flag was created in 1999 and debuted in 2000 at Phoenix Pride. The white stripe was included to represent non-binary, intersex, and gender-nonconforming people. We can thank Monica Helms for this flag, who is also a trans woman and a huge advocate for the trans community!

Both flags are culturally relevant, but when celebrating Black Trans Liberation Tuesday, make sure to use the Black Transgender Pride Flag."

We're always growing here at The Bridge - literally 🌱

Recently, we began our new Farm to Fork program with staff and youth. Yesterday, we transplanted our seedlings to the garden boxes, along with new wildflowers and more seeds for veggies! Youth enjoyed getting their hands dirty as we took the next step to growing our own food here at The Bridge.

Today marks six years since the murder of George Floyd. As we take a moment to breathe, remember, and heal, we hold the strength of community in our hearts.

For over half a decade, we’ve reckoned with shared trauma impacting those we love and care for. There are many stories left untold of individuals being wrongfully impacted by profiling and violence. We stand in solidarity with those who face harm and injustice.

The Bridge for Youth continues to recommit ourselves to personal and organizational transformation as we center racial justice and equity in all we do. We’re a safe space for all youth.

If you’re a youth in need, we’re here 24/7.

As we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month we’ve been engaging in conversations with youth about breaking down barriers around mental health. Hear directly from one youth in shelter as they reflect on their own journey and how The Bridge has inspired them to keep going: https://loom.ly/OJeEng8
