Soft Landing Missoula is a group of dedicated citizens, business owners, and non-profit organizations who have come together with the goal of opening our city, arms, and hearts in a sustainable way to refugees from around the world.

Join us next week for our biggest celebration of the season!
Soft Landing Missoula turned 10 this year, and we’re marking a decade of welcoming refugees and immigrants with a parking lot party for the whole community. Bring the family for games, screen printing with the ZACC, henna by local Afghan artists, and delicious food from Deli Arepas, Zeera, and Puma!

Yesterday’s Back to School Bash was a huge success! It was an all hands on deck day at the Soft Landing Missoula Community center! We had the whole team working to make sure every student and family had what they needed to start off the school year right! 222 People picked up backpacks and school supplies. We couldn’t have done it without the amazing support! Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies and came out to volunteer at the event! For refugee and immigrant families arriving in our community, building a secure future is the ultimate goal. It starts by finding a job, a home, and connecting with partners and resources in our community.

August is National Make-A-Will Month, making this a great time for all to bring peace of mind to our own families. Writing a will protects your loved ones and ensures that your personal wishes are honored.

We are in our third year of the SLM summer passport program and it has been so fun to watch the program grow! This year we have added a Wednesday drop in craft night right here at the SLM community center! We have done everything from collage making to cookie decorating! And last week we made slime with the kiddos. It was messy and colorful and everyone loved it! We love to see kids involved and ready to make something with their hands and are excited to see what they will do next Wednesday!

We are looking for a passionate, welcoming intern to join the Soft Landing Missoula team! This flexible role (10–25 hours/week) supports our Adult & Family Services and Community Center.
What you will do:

Our annual Back-to-School Bash is coming up fast and we need your help to get our students fully prepared to thrive in their new classrooms!
Please bring your school supply donations to the Soft Landing Missoula Community Center by August 20th so we can get everything ready for the big day!

* Kleenex and Clorox Wipes

August already?! This month, in honor of our 10-year anniversary, we are highlighting the young people and their big futures here at SLM!

Meet Roukai! Five years ago, she joined Soft Landing Missoula as a student. Today, she is going into her junior year at the University of Montana studying biology and pre-med! Recently Roukai returned to our summer "Science Fun" class as a guest teacher at the Missoula Public Library. She led 20 eager kids through hands-on activities about germs, vaccines, and the immune system. The students were completely hooked!! One even asked if she could teach again next week!

The Missoula Food Bank and Soft Landing Missoula are celebrating a powerful partnership grounded in care, dignity, and expanding community access!

Over nearly nine years of collaboration, our two organizations have focused on deep outreach, listening, and breaking down barriers like language and navigation to better support immigrant and refugee & immigrant neighbors. This shared commitment recently culminated in the launch of a highly successful new satellite food pantry at the Soft Landing Community Center. Funded by a dedicated grant, this hyper-local resource brings tailored, flexible, and culturally relevant staples, such as halal chicken, oil, and fresh produce, directly to families in a welcoming environment.

Beyond the new pantry, the partnership also powers a crucial Summer Food Program that provides consistent meals and snacks for youth programming to ensure young people stay nourished and engaged.

As Soft Landing Missoula celebrates 10 Years of Welcome, we are incredibly grateful for the Missoula Food Bank’s unwavering dedication to meeting people where they are and ensuring everyone in our community feels a true sense of belonging.

“This is like activities and stuff! I like it way more.” Our "Science Outdoors" youth program recently traded the classroom for the beautiful shores of Flathead Lake! 🌊 Ten of our third- through fifth-grade students spent an incredible day at the University of Montana's Flathead Lake Biological Station, dragging plankton nets along the dock, examining live mysis shrimp under microscopes, and engineering their own "plankton" out of craft supplies.

Introducing our newest neighbors to Montana’s beautiful natural spaces is a vital part of helping them feel at home, and we are so grateful to the FLBS team for helping us create such a fun, hands-on day of discovery (which, of course, ended with a well-deserved swim!).
