The Chemistry & Biochemistry faculty had a great time celebrating the undergraduate Class of 2026! Our very own Nivedita Prabhu (Honors BIOC '26) was selected as the student speaker at the College of Arts and Sciences convocation ceremony -- a huge honor!
Congratulations to all of our chemistry, biochemistry, and chemistry education graduates on their many accomplishments over the years; we can't wait to see what you will go on to do next!

Chemistry Department's Undergraduate Picnic was held on Saturday September 20th.

Our department's annual undergraduate picnic, started decades ago by beloved professor Dr. Burnaby Munson, is still alive and well. Thanks to all our students who came out to make this year's picnic such a success, as well as to Dr. John Koh for taking on the roles of grill master and DJ. Best wishes for Dr. Fred Cruz, our gracious host, who's birthday coincided with the day of the picnic!

Thanks to Dr. Lauren Genova for providing all of the photos, including a couple of her undergraduate shots from 11 years ago featuring the same plastic chairs and same fence in the same backyard as well as Dr. Fred Cruz's birthday cake from now and 11 years ago.

Happy 186th birthday, J. Willard Gibbs!!!

Started by physical chemistry professors Joe Noggle and Burnaby Munson back in the 90's, our department's tradition of celebrating Gibbs' birthday is still going strong!

A big thanks to our faculty, staff, and students who came out to celebrate!

Huge congratulations to Kennith Ross (Honors BS CHEM major, '26) for winning 1st place in the undergraduate division of the 3 Minute Rundown Communication Competition at the 51st Annual Meeting of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE)! The purpose of the 3 Minute Rundown is to challenge participants to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. Kennith and all other participants were each called to the front of the room, where they took turns delivering three-minute oral presentations on their research to the audience and judges, using just a single PowerPoint slide as a visual aid. All presentations were judged based on two categories: comprehension & content, along with engagement & communication. Awards were presented to the 1st and 2nd place winners of each division (undergraduate division and graduate/postdoc division). Kennith has been conducting undergraduate research with Prof. Mary Watson since his freshman year.
