Today, officers from the Newark Police Department proudly participated in the 40th Delaware Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Delaware (SODE), helping carry the Flame of Hope across the state.

Our department has a long history of being heavily involved in supporting Special Olympics athletes, and it is great to see that tradition continuing through this year’s Torch Run.

We are honored to be part of this meaningful event and to support a cause that celebrates determination, inclusion, and achievement. We are especially proud of our officers who ran in support of these amazing athletes.

Special thanks to Cpl. Mease, who helped organize officers for the event.

We are sorry to say but due to the high temperatures, humidity, and the potential for severe storms this evening, the scheduled Fishing with 1st Responders event at Hillside Park has been cancelled. This event is not being re-scheduled for June. We will be back at it on July 10th at Hillside Park. We are sure that the fish are taking a cool bath and enjoying the break from being caught.

We are still getting reports of spoof scam calls. Don't fall for it! See the post for more info!

The Newark Police have been made aware of scam phone calls in which the caller ID appears to show a Newark Police Department phone number. During these calls, the caller claims the victim owes money for fines, court matters, or other legal issues and demands payment to avoid arrest.

The Newark Police Department will never request payment for anything over the phone. We will not ask you to pay fines, traffic tickets, bail, court costs, or any other fee, and we will certainly never ask for payment by gift cards, prepaid debit cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, mobile payment apps, or any other electronic payment method.

These calls may involve caller ID spoofing, where scammers falsify the phone number shown on caller ID to make the call appear legitimate.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call should hang up immediately. Do not provide personal information or payment. Instead, contact the Newark Police Department directly using a verified phone number.
