Hey, sports fans! Blades the Bruin is coming to Norton!

The Boston Bruins have teamed up with libraries across the Commonwealth to encourage kids and teens to keep reading over the summer. Norton Public Library is one of just 12 public libraries selected to receive a special summer reading visit from Bruins mascot Blades!

On Tuesday, August 4th at 11am, watch Blades act out a story then visit themed stations around the room: strike a pose for your Blades photo op, challenge yourself with hockey trivia, make a fan button, and more! Ideal for children ages 4 and up. Feel free to wear Bruins colors! No registration for this event; it's first come, first served, and we'll close the door when we reach the safe occupancy limits set by the Massachusetts State Building Code.

Summer reading is one of the best ways to help children and teens avoid the "summer slide" and maintain skills they've learned over the academic year. It also helps them grow the skills required for their next year in school. Studies have shown that children who read just four books over the summer fare better in the fall on reading comprehension tests than their peers who read one or no books.

The Boston Bruins have been teaming up with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) since 2009 for the annual Summer Library Program, When You Read, You Score! Since then, millions of kids, teens, and adults have participated in this statewide program.

The Statewide Summer Library Program is sponsored by your local library, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the Massachusetts Library System and the Boston Bruins.

Registration opens today for our "Write Like a Rebel! Calligraphy and the Founders" class with calligrapher Debby Reelitz! Register here: bit.ly/43C16Z2

In this class, Debby will demonstrate how people wrote during the colonial period. She'll share images of famous colonists, their desks and writing, from Phillis Wheatley to George Washington. You will get to create a signature for yourself that is inspired by signatures from colonial times--your very own "John Hancock."

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Norton Public Library.

Reviews from other local libraries include:

“Calligraphy that inspired a nation: Learn to write like America’s founders was one of the best and most unique programs we have had at the Milford Public Library in a long time! Not only did all my teens love the program, but their parents were wanting to jump in, too! Highly recommend!”

“I had so much fun!”

“This is an excellent program! We hosted the presenter for this timely, hands-on presentation and class. The attendees thoroughly enjoyed themselves!”
