Starting today! Oakland Public Works will be conducting a field audit of trash, recycling, and compost carts at Oakland homes and businesses from September 21 - October 2. If you see our surveyors in your neighborhood, please feel free to say hello or ask a question!

Surveyors will look at the contents of residents’ trash, compost and recycling carts or bins. If they find misplaced items, they will leave an “Oops!” tag explaining which items were wrongly placed and providing information on correct sorting.
Residential neighborhoods will be audited on trash collection days from 5 am to 4 pm. Businesses and apartment buildings will be audited one day before their service day(s). The audit is required by State law and is for informational purposes only. Nothing will be removed from your cart, and no fines will be issued by the City of Oakland as part of the audit process.
