The Locust Fire Department also is very community involved and host our annual
Easter egg hunt and Santa party each year at the Locust fire station. We also participate in the 4th of July celebration at Flowing Wells Marina. Locust Fire Department operates on about a $50,000 budget, with about $12,000 a year coming from Grayson County tax funding and the rest coming from community donations and fund raisers. The main fundraiser for the Locust Fire Department is our annual Fry 'em Up Fish Fry in the late summer with raises the majority of needed funding, being held at the Mill Creek Marina camp ground area. Be sure to attend and have some great fish and help out our financial cause. Other community involvements have been assisting our community during the 2020 winter freeze, by being a distribution point for bottled water and water for flushing. Our volunteers also cooked and provided a hot spaghetti dinners and passed out to those in need as our community was without power for 4 days and no water for 7 days. The Locust Fire Department is currently under direction of Chief Kaleb L. Estep ([email protected]) and we operate equipment of Engine 41, Tender 41 & 42 (3000 gallons each) Brush 41 & 42. The Locust Fire Department is operated under the direction of the Board of Directors and currently has a roster of 10-15 volunteers. Some of our volunteer firefighters also serve on our Board of Directors, which allows the Board a greater understanding of the needs of the department.
