Delayed post, but we finally have a budget!

Only 12 days late, but there is no excuse!

Leadership from both parties in BOTH the House and Senate WITH the Governor need to be prioritizing this budget from DAY 1 that the Governor delivers his budget.

Nothing else should take priority. Any time after the budget is signed, that is when they can work on policies that will affect the following year.

We need time to analyze it, and at this time have no opinion on the final result.

Republicans would be relieved that this budget does not tap into the $8 BILLION dollar reserves

Democrats will be happy to know that it puts over $900 million into poorer school districts.

This also speaks volumes to the need for more than one . We need more voices in our representation to everyone accountable.

If you are wondering why we are being harsh about the budget, it’s with good reason.

Balanced budgets are part of our platform! This should not be controversial!

Last year, our budget was not finalized and sent back to Office of the Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro until November.

This wasn’t the first time. Over the last 23 years, it has been late over 16 times. Including now.

Gov. Ed Rendell (2003–2010): Rendell missed the deadline in all eight of his budget years. This includes a historic, record-long 176-day standoff in 2003 and a 101-day impasse in 2009

Gov. Tom Corbett (2011-2014)
2014: Signed days after the deadline.

Gov. Tom Wolf (2015-2022)
2015: Vetoed by Gov. Tom Wolf, leading to an impasse that lasted until March.
2017: Signed four months late in October.
2022: Delayed by one week.

Gov. Josh Shapiro (2023-current)
2023: Stalled for several months into the winter.
2024: Missed the June 30 deadline and finalized roughly 11 days late.
2025: Dragged on for four months, with an agreement not reached until mid-November.
2026: TBD

It doesn’t matter who is in charge when it happens, but it is fair to note that Corbett had a trifecta. That is, both House and Senate plus Governors office are controlled by the same party. Tom Wolf (D) had republicans in charge of both house and senate. Shapiro (D) has had a Democrat majority House and Republican majority Senate.

For either party (most loudly the Republicans) to be pointing fingers and blaming the other is disingenuous, deceitful, and dishonest. Not to mention PA Senate Republicans recessing at 2PM the day a budget is due, and not planning to return until after a week long vacation, is absolutely disrespectful to all residents of the Commonwealth.

The sole priority of both parties and both branches should be getting the budget negotiated and signed before the deadline. PERIOD.

Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus seems to think the failure to pass the budget on time by PA Senate Republicans colleagues failure, is the fault of Pennsylvania House Democrats.

That is hilarious. They must have slept through the vote and forgot that they passed it on 4/14/26.

The entire failure is on the senate as a whole.

Republicans spent the majority of their time pandering to fluffing the base to push Trumps agenda, and obsess over regulating peoples ge****ls.

Both parties spent time on public appearances and committees dealing with everything that wasn’t budget related.

Is time to hold them both accountable once and for all.

It’s time to focus on actual issues and tasks that matter to Pennsylvanians, that help improve their lives, not serving party overlords (including the president).

By law, it is supposed to be in the governors hands by JUNE 30th

PA Senate Republicans decided at 2 PM yesterday that it was AND voted along party lines to recess until State Senator Kim Ward - Unofficial (President Pro Temper) calls them back.

Must be nice to take a week long vacation, still getting paid by our tax dollars, and not having done your job to completion for the last 2 months
(We’re being generous since they didn’t receive it from the house until 4/14)

Many of these senators are up for re-election in November and more in November 2028

Sorry, until after July 6th or the call of the President Pro Tempore

This was released 20 minutes before the vote to recess was laid out, with the results straight party line.

All Republicans voting in favor. All Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Caucus voting against.

They have packed up and gone fishing for the holiday instead of doing the job they are bound to do by the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Remember this in November.

4/14/26 the day the PA Senate Republicans received the budget as approved by the house.

Legislation to provide workers comp to volunteer EMS and Firefighters who may be injured during fundraising events.

Definitely not controversial, or unreasonable.

Over 90% of our states fire departments are 100% volunteer run and organized. For many this is a full time job on top of their existing full time job and family commitments. Fundraising is a critical task in their duties to ensure they have the best equipment to protect us every day.

However, the number one compliant from the Republican Party of Pennsylvania is that Josh Shapiro is “spending too much and draining our rainy day funds”

This is something that will cost tax payers money, while arguably a necessity. What are they willing to give up so that we can afford this program?

This is something they should have been discussing months ago for the house to work into the bill.

Another valid argument is that they should not need to fundraise in the first place. Considering these men and women are literally laying their lives on the line, FOR FREE, we should be making sure they have the best and most updated equipment available to protect them.

Get this budget passed today, then start actually buckling down tomorrow. Get ahead of the game and be prepared to negotiate with who ever wins the seat in November.

What are PA Senate Republicans doing instead of passing the budget that is due on the Office of the Governor of Pennsylvania desk today?

The thing Republicans in the legislature are great at is “having discussions” which lead to nothing.

Because the practical and pragmatic solutions are ones they don’t want to hear.

4/13/26 that’s just what they were doing, the day before the budget was delivered to them.

“Discussing” how to “reduce barriers” to “expand attainable housing”.

More often than not, their “solutions” usually create problems that make it less affordable and less accessible. Usually, they end up finding a way to profit of it for themselves or their donors like Bill Pulte.

One practical solution, is to eliminate the requirement of realtors to have a physical office. One of our activists and board members Kevin Gaughen is actually doing something to help change this. He isn’t “just discussing”.

We will re-share Kevin’s story in the comments.

Another would be to make it harder to discriminate against housing and employment for a formerly incarcerated person who served their time. A significant portion of unhoused people are people who have not been able get their life back on track, often leading to high recidivism rates, su***de and fatal drug use. Perhaps a transition program to help prevent this issue in the first place.

These are things that matter that can be worked on and worked into the budget next year. Instead of being sprinkled here and there to act lien they’re doing something meaningful.

Continuing the thread from yesterday highlighting what Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Caucus have been paying attention to instead of working on the budget delivered to them on April 14th.

Now we turn our attention to the PA Senate Republicans who have the majority in that body.

On multiple days since 4/28 they posted about the bills to by promoting what amounts to s*x based discrimination and segregation. This isn’t even every post about it.

The commonwealth voted in 2021 to amend the State Constitution to add Article 1 § 28. Prohibition against denial or abridgment of equality of rights because of s*x.
Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania because of the s*x of the individual.

This is of course part of the play book obsession with regulating people’s ge****ls. They are diverting their attention to transgender women (“biological men” as they use) in sports. Less than 1% of 2% of the population.

This raises many other issues.

One being that men exist, using the same rhetoric “biological women”. They play sports too, but are often left out of the hateful rhetoric.

Instead of focusing on something that matters to everyone, and can hurt many peoples they are focused on hurting less than 1% of the population.
