As Summer returns, you’ll start seeing more motorcycles cruising through Rifle and along the I-70 corridor. Let’s keep everyone safe this season by staying extra alert behind the wheel.

Here's what to keep in mind:
• Smaller Profile – Motorcycles can be hard to spot, especially in your blind spots. Take that extra second to double-check.
• Vulnerable Riders – Motorcyclists don’t have the same protection as a car. In a crash, they take the full force.
• Driver Awareness – Most motorcycle accidents involve another vehicle—and often, the driver didn’t see the bike.
• Tricky to Judge Speed – Bikes may seem like they’re farther away or going slower than they really are.

Let’s work together to make this a safe Summer on the roads for riders and drivers alike. Let’s look out for one another.

Child abuse isn’t always visible, but there are signs we can all learn to recognize:
• Unexplained injuries or frequent absences from school
• Sudden changes in behavior, fear, or withdrawal
• Poor hygiene or inappropriate clothing for the weather
• Lack of supervision or basic needs not being met

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. Speaking up could make all the difference in a child’s life.

You don’t have to have all the answers—you just have to care enough to act.

After 30 years of dedicated service, Corporal Diego Pina has officially signed off for the final time.

Corporal Pina served his entire law enforcement career with the Rifle Police Department, dedicating three decades to the safety and well-being of the City of Rifle and the people who call it home. Throughout his career, Diego became known not only for his professionalism and leadership, but for the genuine care and compassion he showed to everyone around him.

Corporal Pina served as a Field Training Officer, mentoring and preparing new officers for the challenges and responsibilities of this profession. His impact on this department is immeasurable, as he played a role in training every current Police Officer serving within the Rifle Police Department today.

During his career, Corporal Pina also served as a Detective, Fire Investigator, and Hostage Negotiator, while holding instructorships in Taser and Radar. In every assignment, he led with integrity, humility, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.

Diego’s legacy extends far beyond the badge. His influence will continue through the officers he mentored, the lives he touched, and the example he set each and every day.

From all of us at the Rifle Police Department and the City of Rifle — thank you, Corporal Pina, for your 30 years of service, leadership, sacrifice, and dedication to this community.

We wish you a long, healthy, and well-deserved retirement. Congratulations on this next chapter.

🚨 SAFE SUMMER 2026 🚨

School’s out at NOON this Thursday, and that means more kids will be outside enjoying their summer break! ☀️⚽🚲

Please slow down and stay alert in neighborhoods, near parks, and around sidewalks. Kids can move fast and unexpectedly — chasing a ball into the street, playing tag with friends, riding bikes, or crossing roads without looking.

A few extra seconds of caution could save a life.

✅ Slow down in residential areas
✅ Put distractions away
✅ Watch for children near parked cars and intersections
✅ Be extra cautious during afternoon and evening hours
