I am horrified by the brutal attack in Wyoming last weekend on a fellow Sacramentan and member of the Sikh community. The persistent violence towards our Sikh neighbors, now inflamed by rhetoric from our own government, has always been unacceptable.

My thoughts are with him, his family, and the entire Sikh community as he recovers from this senseless act of violence. Sacramento is home to a strong and vibrant Sikh community, and we must stand with them.

Our only path forward is to do what Sacramento does best: we must stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of each other and the nation we want to be.

According to Singh's account of his conversation with the victim, the driver stopped at a rest area to use the restroom before he was stabbed multiple times.

I was grateful to stand with our partners at NAMI, alongside my House colleagues, to reintroduce the 988 Implementation Act.

NAMI’s leadership and the voices of advocates, families, and people who have experienced mental health crises firsthand are essential to this work. I’m thankful for their partnership as we fight to strengthen the 988 Lifeline so people have someone to call, someone who can respond, and somewhere safe to receive care.

Ships docked at California’s ports run diesel generators day and night. The communities around them already carry far too heavy a pollution burden, so California took commonsense steps to clean up the air.

Today, the House voted to repeal that protection. The stakes go beyond our ports. This vote threatens California’s ability to set stronger standards for every community that needs them.

I voted no and will always defend California’s authority to protect the air we breathe.

Today in Washington, I joined my colleagues to call for passage of the 988 Implementation Act and ensure every community has the resources to make that lifeline work.

When someone calls 988, help should be there, no matter where they live or what they can afford.
