A heartfelt thank you to Senator Roger Niello for authoring SB 1047, which would add Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) to California's Neurodegenerative Disease Registry. I am honored to add my name as a Co-Author to this important piece of legislation. Hugh thanks to Emma Heming Willis for being such a staunch and visible advocate for all those suffering from FTD.

Collecting this critical data will help advance research, improve our understanding of FTD, and bring us closer to better treatments and ultimately, a cure for this devastating and fatal disease.

I appreciated the opportunity today to meet Emma Heming Willis, wife of actor Bruce Willis, as she came to the Capitol to advocate for Senate Bill 1047, which would require the state to collect data on diagnoses frontotemporal degeneration. FTD is the most common dementia for people under age 60 and represents a group of progressive brain disorders that affect areas of the brain responsible for personality, behavior, language, and motor skills.

Bruce Willis suffered from aphasia early in his illness, while mine came on suddenly after a stroke, but we both have lived through variations on this communication challenge. I appreciate her advocacy for closer study of brain health, and Senator Roger Niello's work on this important bill.

Way back Wednesday to when I got to meet the St. Mark's Lutheran School students and welcome them to the State Capitol! This wonderful group of students and teachers were accompanied by incredible parents, some of whom work right here in the Capitol. Their enthusiasm and support created such warm, uplifting energy in the chamber. Thank you for visiting.
