Ambassador Eleni Kounalakis was sworn in as the 50th Lieutenant Governor of California by Governor Gavin Newsom on January 7th, 2019. A native Californian, she visited each of the state’s 58 counties during her historic campaign. In addition to her duties as Lt. Governor, Kounalakis is:

– California’s Representative for International Affairs and Trade, appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom by executive order
– President of the Senate and votes in case of a tie
– Voting member of the Board of Regents of the University of California (UC), the Board of Trustees of the California State University (CSU) system, and the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges (CCC) system
– Sits on the Calbright College Board of Trustees
– Serves on and rotates with the State Controller as chair of the three-member State Lands Commission
– Serves as Chairperson of the State Lands Commission and serves as a California Ocean Protection Council member and a non-voting member of the California Coastal Commission during alternate years
– Chairs the California Commission for Economic Development

Proud to see AB 1755 sent off to the Governor’s desk!

And just like that, I have finished my second year! Seven of my bills are now headed to the Governor’s desk and one has already been signed. It took a lot of hard work, long days, and persistence to get here. I’m proud of what I accomplished this session. These bills reflect what matters most- keeping costs down, improving access, and protecting all Californians. I’m excited for what’s next!
