Strong communities start with strong teams. 
  
The Tribal Capacity Building Program supports California Native American Tribes by funding staff positions and providing technical assistance so Tribal governments can focus on planning, partnerships, grant opportunities, and project implementation. 
  
Since its pilot launch, the program has awarded $1.45 million to six Tribal grantees, helping many hire their first full-time staff dedicated to advancing housing and climate priorities. Applications for Round 2 of the program are due next week on Aug. 11! 
  
Learn how this investment is helping Tribes lead projects rooted in their own priorities and traditions.

🌡️🔥 California is mobilizing resources to help protect communities as extreme heat and elevated wildfire risk impact the state.

Extreme heat is one of California’s deadliest climate hazards. Stay informed, take precautions, and check in on those most vulnerable, including older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and people with chronic health conditions.

Here are a few ways to stay safe:
💧 Stay hydrated.
❄️ Find a nearby cooling center if you don’t have air conditioning.
🌡️ Check local heat conditions with CalHeatScore.
🏡 Check on family, friends, and neighbors.
🚨 Sign up for local emergency alerts.

Hot, dry weather also increases wildfire risk. Help prevent human-caused fires by avoiding activities that can create sparks, securing tow chains, and never parking on dry grass.

📢 Calling all prospective applicants!

The second and final Pre-Application window for California’s Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program closes Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. PDT.

Please note that technical assistance is not available during this second Pre-Application window.

Supported by the Climate Bond (Proposition 4) and the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, this program will invest in infrastructure projects that help communities:
🌳 Reduce the impacts of extreme heat
🏘️ Strengthen community resilience
☀️ Protect Californians most vulnerable to extreme heat

To access the Full Application, interested applicants must first complete the Pre-Application Interest Form before the deadline.

Key Dates
✅ Pre-Application Window 2 (No Technical Assistance): July 1 – Aug. 11, 2026, at 2 p.m. PDT
📅 Full Application Deadline: Oct. 13, 2026, at 2 p.m. PDT

Program staff will continue to host webinars, workshops, office hours, and informational sessions throughout the application period to support applicants.
