Today, September 4th, is California Wildlife Day, in honor of Jackie the Bald Eagle.

I want to thank the hundreds of people who have shared heartfelt messages about this resolution. It was an honor to introduce Senate Resolution 140, which passed unanimously with bipartisan support.

Jackie touched millions of lives in California, across our country, and around the world. Today, let’s remember Jackie, celebrate her legacy, and reflect on the lasting impact she had on so many people.

The most essential role of government is public safety. I want to share a big announcement and congratulate the city of Garden Grove, Mayor Klopfenstein, and the men and women who work hard every day to keep our community safe. A new home for Garden Grove’s finest! Team Strickland joined the City of Garden Grove in celebrating the grand opening of its new police department.

It was last December in photo 3 that I toured the facility while under construction, and now it’s the new home for the GGPD. Congrats!

Bad Bill Alert: Legislative Democrats passed Assembly Bill 2168, and I voted NO.

California drivers pay the highest gas tax in the nation, and this measure would raid the hard-earned dollars you pay at the pump. Instead, the supermajority wants to take those gas tax dollars intended for roads and spend them on bicycle and pedestrian projects.

I introduced the Gas Tax Relief Act, which would have suspended the gas tax for one year, providing relief for struggling families. My legislation would have lowered a gallon of gas by $1.08, saving an average family of $1100. The supermajority would not advance it out of committee.

Democrats want to raid the gas tax funds to get you out of your cars.

Today marks the final day of the 2026 California State Legislature legislative session. I’m sharing some highlights from today.

For nine state senators, it also marks the end of their time serving in the Legislature as they reach their term limits.

It’s been a busy session, with plenty of long days, robust debates, votes and conversations with the media about the issues facing California.

Thank you to these senators for the time, energy and commitment they have given to their constituents and the people of California.

Great news! My student health education bill has been signed into law. Senate Bill 1133 is very personal for me, as I lost a childhood friend too soon due to the health choices he made when he was younger. His passing at age 50 was a heartbreaking reminder that the habits we make early in life can have a lasting impact on our health and longevity.

This new law will direct the Instructional Quality Commission, when California’s Health Education Framework is next revised on or after January 1, 2027, to consider evidence-based instruction covering nutrition and food literacy, sleep, physical activity, stress management, digital balance, and environmental factors that affect health.

Jackie the Bald Eagle is flying high now, but her legacy lives on. September 4th is California Wildlife Day, established by Senate Resolution 140 in remembrance of Jackie.

I introduced SR 140, which passed with bipartisan support. SR 140 highlights the significance of the bald eagle as America celebrates its 250th birthday this year. As the nation’s enduring symbol of freedom, strength, and resilience, the bald eagle holds a unique place in America’s history.

Jackie’s story captured the hearts of people across the Golden State and around the world, while inspiring a deeper connection to wildlife and conservation.
