California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond joined the Monterey County Office of Education today to celebrate 1 million CalKIDS Program Scholarship Accounts claimed statewide! 💸📈

This milestone builds on Superintendent Thurmond’s longstanding work to give students the tools to build financially secure futures. In 2024, he championed AB 2927, landmark legislation that made personal finance a high school graduation requirement in California. Beginning in 2027–28, every public high school must offer a standalone personal finance course, with the requirement taking effect for the graduating class of 2030–31.

Why does it matter? Research shows that high-quality personal finance education can lead to better financial outcomes in adulthood, including improved debt and credit outcomes.

CalKIDS takes that commitment one step further — giving eligible students a real investment toward college or career training.

From the first 15 minutes of Transitional Kindergarten to an award-winning high school robotics team. 📚➡️🤖

State Superintendent Tony Thurmond visited Davis Joint USD yesterday, joining TK students as they began their very first day of school and touring a new early education facility at North Davis Elementary.

At Davis Senior High School, Citrus Circuits students showed off a robot they designed and built—and demonstrated the technical, leadership, teamwork and public speaking skills that go into competing at the highest levels.
