Monterey County’s agricultural roots run deep, shaped by generations of innovation, resilience, and hard work.

Japanese farmworkers played a pivotal role in pioneering the cut flower industry in the Salinas Valley, transforming small plots of land into thriving businesses and helping make fresh bouquets more accessible than ever before.

This powerful story is captured in Gambatte Kimash*ta – Japanese Flower Growers of the Salinas Valley, a Voices of Monterey Bay winner by Eric Palmer.
