We wanted to provide our community with an update regarding the fire at The Grand at Julian.

Our teams remain actively engaged in the investigation while also working closely with property management and ownership to assess property access, identify resident needs, and determine the next steps in the recovery process. We are also continuing efforts to locate and reunite pets with their families whenever possible.

This afternoon, we will be meeting directly with residents to provide an update, discuss available resources, answer questions, and work through next steps together.

At the request of property management, access to the property is currently limited to residents only. We respectfully ask everyone to honor this request and allow residents the time and space needed to assess damage, retrieve belongings, and begin taking the first steps toward recovery.

A media briefing will be held today at 4:00 PM in the parking lot of the Rowan County Rescue Squad. We will provide an update on the incident and answer questions as information becomes available.

We also encourage everyone to share the Rowan County Emergency Services post regarding community outreach and donations. The support being shown by this community has been truly remarkable, and we are incredibly grateful for the compassion and generosity being extended to those affected.

We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. Thank you for your patience, support, and understanding as we work through this process together.

First and foremost, thank you. The outpouring of support from our community following the fire at The Grand Apartments has been overwhelming, and it speaks volumes about the people of Rowan County.

We know many of you are eager to help, and we are grateful for that compassion. At this time, unless you are working directly with an affected family to meet a specific need, we kindly ask that you hold off on dropping off donations.

Through the incredible efforts of responders, community partners, apartment management, and local organizations, many of the immediate needs of affected residents—including medications, diapers, formula, and other essential items—have already been addressed. Today, agencies and community leaders will continue working together to fully assess the impact of this incident and identify any remaining short-term and long-term needs.

Once we have a clearer picture of those needs, a coordinated team of community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and partner agencies will help determine the most effective way for our community to provide support. We are committed to ensuring that assistance reaches those affected in a meaningful and organized manner.

In the meantime, we ask for your patience and understanding as this process unfolds. We also ask that you continue to give responders, management, and support agencies the space they need to assist residents and work through the next steps. While every offer of help is appreciated, uncoordinated donations at this stage may unintentionally create logistical challenges and hinder efforts to provide assistance where it is needed most.

Please know that the desire to help is not going unnoticed. The families affected by this fire are surrounded by a community that cares deeply about them, and we will share opportunities to support them as soon as those needs are identified.

As information continues to circulate, we would also encourage everyone to rely on updates from trusted and official sources. We understand there is a great deal of concern and many questions surrounding this incident. At this time, only minor injuries to occupants have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Out of respect for the families affected and the integrity of the investigation, we ask for patience as facts are gathered and confirmed. We will continue to share verified information as it becomes available.

Thank you for your kindness, your patience, and for continuing to keep these families in your thoughts as they begin their recovery.

🔥 Rowan County Grilling Safety 🔥

Grilling season is here—time for good food, good company, and a little common sense to keep things safe:

🔥 Give Your Grill Some Space
Keep it at least 10 feet from your home, deck, and anything that can catch fire.

👀 Stay Close
Don’t walk off while you’re cooking—flare-ups can happen before you know it.

🛠 Check Your Setup
Using gas? Take a second to check hoses for cracks or leaks. If you smell gas, don’t light it.

🧼 Clean Grill = Safer Grill
Grease buildup is a major cause of fires—keep those grates and drip pans clean.

🚫 No Shortcuts
Stick to proper starter fluid for charcoal. Never use gasoline or other accelerants.

🧯 Be Ready
Have something nearby just in case—a fire extinguisher or even baking soda can help with small flare-ups.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Keep a Clear Zone
Kids and pets should stay at least 3 feet away from the grill.

♨️ Cool It Down Right
Let coals cool completely before dumping them—always use a metal container.

Keep it simple, stay sharp, and look out for each other, Rowan County.

Have a safe and great grilling season! 🔥

Today, we commemorate the unwavering spirit of freedom, forged through the ultimate sacrifices of our heroes.

For many, Memorial Day sparks joyful gatherings, warm family moments, and the start of summer's promise.

Yet, for others, it's the poignant symbol of a flag, carefully folded and handed to trembling hands, a heartbreaking reminder that a loved one's journey home was not meant to be.

This solemn emblem carries the weight of selflessness, devotion, and the voids left at tables, birthdays, and life's milestones, forever altering the lives of those who mourn.

We pay tribute to the brave men and women who gave their lives for our nation's freedom, and we stand in solidarity with the families who bear the torch of their loved one's sacrifice.

May their courage inspire us to cherish the price of freedom.

As we bring EMS Week to a close, from nights at the ballfield to early mornings filled with home-cooked breakfasts, we want our crews to know just how appreciated they are.

EMS Week may be ending, but our gratitude — and the importance of the work these men and women do every single day — never does. Thank you for the long hours, the missed holidays, the compassion, and the commitment you continue to show this community.

To know her is to know compassion.
To see her is to see elegance.
To hear her is to hear professionalism.
To work with her is to work with excellence.

She leads with grace, serves with heart, and leaves every place better than she found it.

We are honored she chooses daily to be part of Rowan County Emergency Services.

Last night we recognized Paramedic Sally Roger’s as our Reed & Thompson, PLLC Hometown Hero!

Sally began her EMS career in 2006 with Rowan County EMS after spending 20 years
working in Human Resources. When that chapter ended, she asked herself what else she
would love to do — and nearly 20 years later, EMS has become not just a career, but a true
calling.

To Sally, working in EMS means being able to provide safety, security, and compassion to
someone who may be experiencing the worst day of their life. Her dedication, steady
presence, and heart for helping others have made a lasting impact on her patients,
coworkers, and community. Sally has completed additional training to qualify her as a
Community Paramedic.

This EMS Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people behind the trucks, radios, coffee cups, and controlled chaos that keep Rowan County moving.

Our EMS crews are there for the serious moments, the unexpected moments, and sometimes the “you won’t believe what happened on this call” moments. Through it all, they continue to serve this community with compassion, professionalism, and a sense of humor that helps get everyone through long days and late nights.

This video gives just a small look into the people who proudly serve Rowan County every day — not just as paramedics and EMTs, but as teammates, problem-solvers, caregivers, and family.

To our Rowan County Emergency Services EMS Division: thank you for everything you do for this county and for each other. We appreciate you more than words can say.
