Because your algorithm deserves some good news, we’re sharing some things worth celebrating in Salt Lake City. Here are 12 positive things happening around SLC – all of them make us proud to call SLC our home.

Did you know you can request a tree to be planted? Trees are crucial to our Salt Lake City landscape. They offer shade in our increasingly warmer summer months, help filter our air, provide habitats for animals, and filter water through their root systems!

By agreeing to provide adequate water, we’ll plant a tree in your park strip (the space between the street curb and sidewalk) for free! Together, we can make our City an even better place to live, work, and play.

The 30,000 requests included things like: abandoned vehicles, blocked driveways, cleaning up trash, and removing graffiti from public spaces.

Since personal vehicle trips are a major contributing factor to Salt Lake City’s air quality, the E-Bike Voucher program’s purpose was to make it easier for residents to switch to a clean transportation option.

We asked voucher recipients how they got around before getting their e-bikes and the top modes of transportation was using a personal vehicle at 36%. After getting their e-bike, access recipients changed their main modes of transportation. The top way of getting around became e-bikes at 39%, with a personal vehicle dropping to 26%.

The Computers for the Community program helps community members build digital skills – all while reducing e-waste! We refurbish City-owned laptops we’re no longer using and donate them to local non-profit organizations, giving the devices a second life.

This year we had about 30,000 people join us for drone shows. During the Pioneer Day Drone show, we tried something new and ended up hauled over 1 ton less of garbage to the landfill compared to last year! This included food waste, recycling, and glass. Thank y

It’s official, the new mural is complete! 🐋
 
Jiyoun Lee-Lodge is done painting “Open Your Eyes” on Stephen Kesler’s “Out of the Blue” (the 9th and 9th Whale), and we’re throwing a free party to celebrate: Whale Fest, Saturday, October 3, 2–7pm!
 
In collaboration with the 9th & 9th Business District, Salt Lake City Arts Council, and so many others, Whale Fest will feature food trucks, an all-ages whale call contest, a costume contest (with kid and adult levels), a parade, live music, vendors, and crafts.

Small bite, (potentially) big problem.

This year, about 6x more mosquitoes are testing positive for West Nile virus (WNV) in Salt Lake City than the previous 2 years.

The good news is that it’s highly preventable and most people don’t show any symptoms! The best way to prevent getting WNV is to prevent mosquito bites.

For generations, this annual parade has brought neighbors together to celebrate community, tradition, and the Salt Lake Valley’s rich history.

☀️ Salt Lake City is heating up. With extreme temperatures in the forecast this week, a few simple steps can help keep you and your loved ones safe.

This week’s heat can be dangerous, so remember to:
• Hydrate often.
• Cool off indoors or in air-conditioned spaces (check out the link in our bio for cool zones).
• Find shade and take breaks if you’re outside.
• Never leave kids or pets in a parked vehicle.
• Check on people who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.

We are so excited about our Pioneer Day Drone Show!

We can't wait to see you all for a day of fun at Liberty Park on Friday, July 24th for our next Drone Show!

Come early for the Desert News Marathon, stay for the Days of '47 Parade & the Powwow, and round out the night was another dazzling light show all about our state's unique landmarks and history!
