🐺 Behind the Wolf Pack: Meet & Shadow Your Board

New series! We're introducing a member of your PTA board, who they are, what they do, and how you can shadow them to see the role firsthand. 🐾

First up: our President!

Hi, I'm Crystal Juarez-Ledom, your PTA President!

✨ How long have we been at WO?
We've been part of the Wilderness Oak family for 6 years, and I've been on the board all 6 of those years.

✨ Who are my kiddos?
I have a son in 5th grade. It's our last year in the Wilderness. 😢

✨ Why do I love this role?
I've worn many PTA hats over the years: Reflections Chair, Membership Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and now President. What I love most about PTA is supporting our amazing teachers and school community, and helping create a place where all our wolves feel seen, supported, and loved.

✨ What do I actually do?
I like to think of myself as a manager of chaos. 😂 In a nutshell, I manage the PTA calendar to make sure we're hitting our goals for the year, support the rest of the board, and step in wherever help is needed.

Tomorrow is PTA Appreciation Day, Wilderness Oak! 🎉

Our amazing teachers signed a thank you card to show our PTA board some love! 💛 This group volunteers countless hours behind the scenes to make our school's events and programs possible.

We also want to be upfront about something: several of our current board members have kids moving on to middle school this year, which means we'll have some big seats to fill soon. PTA is only as strong as the people who step up to lead it, and we'd hate to see any of the events our kids love disappear, things like:

..simply because we didn't have enough people ready to take the reigns.

TWO MORE DAYS - left in the hunt for membership treasure. The deadline is THIS FRIDAY (9/25). The leaderboard continues to change each day. Pre-K/Kinder made a push and are again TIED with 5th grade for the top spot.

🛼 A HUGE thank-you to our amazing volunteers who spent this week wrestling skates onto (and off of) 3rd-5th graders!

Speaking from personal experience, getting an 8-year-old's foot into a roller skate is basically an Olympic sport, and y'all showed up and crushed it with laces, buckles, mismatched socks and all.

One more round tomorrow (Friday!). Thank you for your patience, your knee pads (mentally, if not literally), and your willingness to do this all over again for the next few weeks. You're the real MVPs of Wilderness Oak! 🙌

What a great morning for Wednesday Walkers - rebranded Wednesday Warriors for today. 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Over 50 Wolves hit the track and learned about the upcoming Berlin Marathon thanks to parent volunteer DX - who always provides a little insight and motivation at the end of each Wednesday Walkers meetup.

It's never too late to join Wednesday Walkers and get a little energy out before class. Our amazing parent volunteer crew is out on the track every Wednesday starting at 7:00 AM. They greet our Wolves, keep track of the number of attendees, provide encouragement, and are a friendly smile to start their day. We'd love to have your Wolf join us! 🐺💙

Texas House District 121 Candidate Forum
Please join the North East ISD Council of PTAs and Raise Your Hand Texas on Tuesday, October 13 at 11:30 a.m. at the Piper Bass Student Memorial Center for a Candidate Forum featuring Zack Dunn (D) and Representative Marc LaHood (R). The forum will provide an opportunity for families and community members to hear directly from the candidates and learn more about their perspectives on issues affecting our schools, students, and community.
