24 seconds before sunrise, the sky told an incredible story.

Thin clouds slowly drifted away, revealing the majestic Milky Way. Then the first light of dawn appeared… and moments later, satellites began crossing the sky.

In just one morning, the heavens transformed more than once—a beautiful reminder that the night sky is always changing.

I’m incredibly honored to collaborate with the European Space Agency and grateful for the opportunity to share my journey with all of you! šŸ™

I’m an astrophotographer based in the United States, specializing in capturing the Moon, the planets, and the wonders of our Solar System, as well as the countless fascinating objects throughout the universe. šŸ”­

My journey began in December 2022 when I pointed a simple camera at the Moon for the very first time. Watching Mars occult the Moon completely changed the way I looked at the night sky. What started as simple curiosity quickly became a passion that has transformed my life. šŸŒ™

I taught myself astrophotography through countless nights of trial and error, learning how to reveal details hidden beyond what the human eye can see while pushing my equipment to its limits. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to share my images with tens of millions of viewers each month, hoping to make space feel a little closer and inspire others to discover the beauty that exists just above our heads. šŸ’«

While I enjoy photographing many objects in space, I have a special passion for our nearest celestial neighbors. Whether it’s the rugged surface of the Moon, the swirling clouds of Jupiter, the majestic rings of Saturn, or the rare transits of the International Space Station across the Sun or Moon, every image represents hours of planning, patience, and a deep appreciation for the incredible mechanics of our Solar System. 🪐

One of the things I love most about astronomy is its ability to connect people. No matter where we live or what language we speak, we all share the same sky. Every time we look up, we’re reminded that we’re part of something far greater than ourselves.

I hope these images encourage you to step outside, take a moment to look up, and experience the same sense of curiosity and wonder that first inspired me to pick up a telescope. Galactic Politics:
Only rarely does an astronomical object have a political association. However, the spiral galaxy NGC 7252 acquired exactly that when it was given an unusual nickname.

In December 1953, the US President Dwight D. Eisenhower gave a speech advocating the use of nuclear power for peaceful purposes. This ā€œAtoms for Peaceā€ speech was significant for the scientific community, as it brought nuclear research into the public domain, and NGC 7252, which has a superficial resemblance to an atomic nucleus surrounded by the loops of electronic orbits, was dubbed the Atoms for Peace galaxy in honour of this. These loops are well visible in a wider field of view image.

This nickname is quite ironic, as the galaxy’s past was anything but peaceful. Its peculiar appearance is the result of a collision between two galaxies that took place about a billion years ago, which ripped both galaxies apart. The loop-like outer structures, likely made up of dust and stars flung outwards by the crash, but recalling orbiting electrons in an atom, are partly responsible for the galaxy’s nickname.

This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows the inner parts of the galaxy, revealing a pinwheel-shaped disc that is rotating in a direction opposite to the rest of the galaxy. This disc resembles a spiral galaxy like our own galaxy, the Milky Way, but is only about 10 000 light-years across — about a tenth of the size of the Milky Way. It is believed that this whirling structure is a remnant of the galactic collision. It will most likely have vanished in a few billion years’ time, when NGC 7252 will have completed its merging process.

The James Webb Space Telescope has done it again: revealing a breathtaking structure now dubbed the ā€œCosmic Vineā€: a string of 20 galaxies stretching across a staggering 13 million light-years!

What makes this discovery so shocking? This colossal formation dates back nearly 11 billion years, forming just 3 billion years after the Big Bang, a time when galaxies were thought to still be forming in isolated clumps. Instead, JWST captured a massive, organized structure linking galaxies together much earlier than expected.

Not-So-Close Encounter ---
The twin galaxies NGC 4496A and NGC 4496B dominate the frame in this image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. Both galaxies lie in the constellation Virgo, but despite appearing side-by-side in this image they are at vastly different distances from both Earth and one another. NGC 4496A is 47 million light-years from Earth while NGC 4496B is 212 million light-years away. The enormous distances between the two galaxies mean that the two cannot interact, and they only appear to overlap owing to a chance alignment.

Chance galactic alignments such as this provide astronomers with the opportunity to delve into the distribution of dust in these galaxies. Galactic dust adds to the beauty of astronomical images — it can be seen in this image as the dark tendrils threading through both NGC 4496A and NGC 4496B — but it also complicates astronomers’ observations. Dust absorbs starlight, making stars seem dimmer and shifting their light towards longer wavelengths, a process that astronomers refer to as ā€œreddeningā€ (not the same thing as redshift). By carefully measuring how starlight from background galaxies is affected by dust in intervening galaxies, astronomers can map out where the dust is in the foreground galaxy’s spiral arms. The resulting ā€œdust mapsā€ help astronomers calibrate measurements of everything from cosmological distances to the types of stars populating galaxies.
