Yesterday morning, we held our "Things You Don't See: A Closer Look at Intimate Partner Violence" panel and Empowerment Breakfast.

It was an incredibly powerful and moving discussion led by Bria Barnes-Coleman of Albany Law School, with panelists Jennifer Storm of The Legal Project, Wendi Gapczynski of YWCA NENY, Nishaea Richardson of Wealth Phenom LLC, and author and advocate Barbara Norton. Together, this amazing group of women discussed the realities and intricacies of intimate partner violence and the effects of emotional and financial abuse that often goes unseen.

Thank you so much to our moderator and panelists as well as every single attendee who sat in solidarity with survivors yesterday. We are beyond grateful for all of you. A huge thank you as well to our Domestic Violence Awareness Month sponsors, Pursuit, Rivers Casino Schenectady and ABS Solutions.

We cannot do this work without our amazing community partners and friends. Domestic violence doesn’t end without action.

In 2025, we housed 213 women & children in our Empowerment, Healing & Wellness Center shelter.

213 individuals who needed safety as they navigated this new chapter of their lives, often marked with uncertainty and fear, to be free from domestic violence.

213 survivors of domestic violence who needed protection that we were able to provide.

213 people our shelter staff assisted with kindness, compassion, empathy and a strong dedication to our life-saving mission work of eliminating racism, empowering woman and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for ALL.

HAPPENING TOMORROW: The Things We Don’t See: A Closer Look at Intimate Partner Violence Empowerment Breakfast

Tomorrow, October 29th, at The Edison Club in Rexford, NY from 9:00am - 11:30am, join YWCA NorthEastern NY for The Things We Don’t See: A Closer Look at Intimate Partner Violence, a meaningful morning of connection, conversation, and deeper understanding of the realities of intimate partner violence in our community.

Moderated by Albany Law School's Bria Barnes-Coleman and including panelists author and advocate Barbara Norton, YWCA NorthEastern NY's Shelter, Advocacy, and DV Education Director Wendi Gapczynski, The Legal Project's Deputy Legal Director Jennifer Storm, and Nishaea Richardson, CEO of Wealth Phenom LLC, this thought-provoking panel discussion will bring together voices and perspectives to explore the complexities of intimate partner violence, including the warning signs we may overlook, the barriers survivors face, and the ways our communities can better recognize, respond to, and prevent violence.

This event is an opportunity to move beyond what we think we know and take a closer look at the experiences that too often remain unseen.
